Figs or Anjeer as it is popularly referred to in India originated in Arabia. It grows well in areas with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Although considered a fruit, it is actually an inverted flower and its seeds are the real fruit. It is a nutrient rich fruit which can be consumed in fresh or dried from.           

Figs are sweet and soft. A paste of figs can be easily used as a healthy substitute for sugar. Figs can be consumed as a Iron, Phosphorus, Manganese, Sodium and Potassium.

In addition to the fruit, even fig leaves are edible and have numerous health benefits. Research has indicated that the leaves may in fact have more health benefits than the fruit itself. Do dried figs have the same nutritive value as fresh figs? fresh figs is not available throughout the year so the only option left is dried figs.

Figs should be taken with care. They are good source of iron so good for curing anemia but they are also high in sugars so diabetics should beware.
