Preschooler's Growth and Development (3 Years, 4-Month-Old)

As an active parent, you need to help your preschooler in improvement of her fine motor skills. Here’s what you can do for boosting her confidence.

This is the time when your preschooler is growing physically, mentally and socially. She is getting smarter than before and does not seek your help for most of the activities she performs.
Here we shall take a look at some of her growth and developments you can expect this month:

Physical Changes in Preschoolers

She shall continue to improve on her balance. She can now stand on a foot and with altering feet climb down the stairs. You may also find her trying to skip and throw a ball. She shall try to dress herself and try to use the toilet on her own.
With improvement of her fine motor skills she can turn pages of a book. As she can hold the pen, she shall try to write her name.

Social and Emotional Developments

You shall have tremendous impact on the social and emotional development of your little one. With time she shall become more and more independent. You will find her interested in playing with other kids.
You can encourage her to dress herself up, as this would help boosting her self confidence. You can expect her temper tantrums to improve and she shall be able to control some of her emotions slowly now.

Psychological Developments

Your preschooler shall have very active imagination now. If you find her getting timid, it is mostly because of the imaginary fear she creates in her mind. However, there is no need to worry much about this. You need to simply make sure that she is not bullied or punished severely at school. If you sense something is wrong, you can engage in open conversation with her teachers.
You may find her developing fear of the dark. She shall love playing her favourite character that comes on the TV.
Apart from fun and games in schools, she shall also start familiarising with letters and colours. By this time, she will start following your simple commands. With time, she shall be able to follow the complex commands as well.
With improvement in her vocabulary, she can now speak around 4 words to make a sentence.
Every single preschooler is different and should be given the freedom to grow at her own comfortable pace. It is very normal if your toddler lags behind in some areas and remains ahead of others in another area.
Once you are aware of when to be worried and when you should leave things the way they are, you can enjoy watching her grow and develop.

Regular Visits to the Doctor

You must take your preschooler to the doctor for scheduled immunizations and health checkups. Here is a list of what you can expect during the doctor's visits:
  • Your doctor shall physically examine your child.
  • He shall measure her weight and height to ensure she has a healthy growth.
  • Your doctor may ask about her favourite games and toys.
  • He will enquire about the kind of atmosphere at home and how she reacts in between the rest of the members.
  • He shall give the necessary immunization shots to your child.
Timely visits to the doctor's chamber shall help you find answers to concerns relating to her health, growth, behaviours and developments. If you think, you might forget all the questions you have in your mind; you can write them down on a piece of paper.
Once you have taken care of the basic hygiene standards, ensured a healthy diet and taken her for the scheduled immunizations, you need not worry much about her health. If there is still anything else that is bothering you, you may always get in touch with her doctor or teachers in school.

How to boost self confidence of a preschooler? Why are frequent health checkups important? What are ways to make studies fun for a preschooler? Discuss here.
