Weight Loss After a C-Section Delivery

Weight Loss After a C-Section Delivery

Weight loss after a c-section delivery is possible with some simple steps. Find out how to get back into your pre pregnancy shape by losing that extra flab after a caesarean delivery.

In comparison to a normal vaginal delivery, a caesarean delivery is a complicated one, since it requires an abdominal surgery. As such it is believed that a c-section takes a toll on the body of the new mother. But losing weight that you have gained during pregnancy is not really impossible or that difficult after a caesarean delivery too. Yes, you might require being more cautious or taking additional care of your body and observe a lot of precautions. But with due diligence losing that extra flab is surely possible. Here are a few options given below that will help you get back into your pre pregnancy shape with considerable ease:

Breastfeeding the Baby

Yes, breastfeeding the baby regularly helps the mother to lose weight. There are a number of researches that support this point that with regular breastfeeding, women are able to lose weight more effectively compared to women who did not breastfeed. This is explained by the fact that when you breastfeed, your body is required to use extra calories to produce and store the milk.

Start Light Exercises

A light exercise regimen must be charted out after consulting your doctor and must be started off as soon as he permits. Once the doctor suggests that your body is now ready to take on a little stress of a light workout, you should not delay it. But at the same time make sure that you do not rush or push yourself. Check your comfort level and follow the doctor’s suggestions at all times. You must wait at least six weeks post your c-section in order to begin with any sort of exercise. This is the least amount of time that is usually required by the body to recuperate after surgery and childbirth. Doctors generally suggest that the new mother should now start physical activity with slow walks, with support in required and for smaller durations. Stop once you feel tired.

Check Your Calories

The calorie level of your system must never be allowed to dip beyond 1200. This means that your daily calorie intake or consumption must not be below 1200. If the level is below this, it will not meet the metabolic requirements of your body. Rather the condition can be termed as starving in medical terms which is definitely not desirable for you or your baby. Remember that your body is recuperating from the surgery and childbirth and pregnancy and it needs nutrition and calories to repair itself. Your diet should thus have an abundant supply of nutrients to meet this requirement. Besides, it must also be enough to maintain the milk supply to breastfeed your baby.

It is recommended that since the digestive system is quite sensitive at this stage, you opt for smaller meals and ensure that you eat enough to satiate your hunger and not more. Smaller meals not only prevent the possibility of overeating and over indulgence, but also keep the blood sugar levels stable. Also make sure that you take in a balanced diet that has all the required minerals, vitamins, protein, carbohydrate and fibers. Not to forget the essential fatty acids too. Go for vitamin and mineral supplements if suggested by your doctor. Your diet should comprise of whole grains, legumes, fruits, vegetables, lean cuts of milk, fish, egg, dairy and poultry products.

Focus on Abdomen

You need to ensure that you are able to rebuild the strength of your abdominal muscles. Once you attain the permission from your doctor, try out kegels, slight pelvic tilts and light crunches. But before that make sure that you do some warm up breathing exercises. It is not only helpful for your lungs but also contributes in the rebuilding of abdominal strength.

Finally, you have to monitor the amount of weight you are losing over a period of time. Accordingly you can adjust your diet and workout style and routine, of course with prior consultation with your doctor. You have gained this weight over a period of nine months, so you must give yourself adequate time to lose it as well. Have patience and a disciplined approach.

It at times seems difficult to shed that extra kilos that we tend to put during pregnancy however following a healthy diet plan will always help. I would personally suggest to never get into a habit of eating leftovers, as that's the biggest mistake new moms tend to do and end to put on extra kilos. You can also download this app called
