10 Snacks That Make You Fat

10 Snacks That Make You Fat

If you are trying to adopt a healthy lifestyle or maybe lose weight, then snacks are your worst enemy! Snacks are so irresistible because they are tasty and are easily available. But snacks can single-handedly multiply the fat content in your body. And if they promise to be fat free, then the calorie content could be high.

We list 10 snacks that you must avoid as much as possible.

Potato Chips -

Probably the most obvious entry on the list, potato chips are commonly mentioned when it comes to harmful snacks because a pack of potato chips can single-handedly put as much as 30 to 40 grams of fat in your body. Which is a lot!

Indian Sweets -

These sweets are available throughout the year due to some celebration or the other. Indian sweets can be hard to refuse, either due to insistent relatives or because they are downright tasty! But jalebis, rasagollas, gulab jamuns, etc. are not at all healthy if consumed in excess. They contain a large amount of calories and can also increase the cholesterol content in your body.

Bakery Items -

Surprised? Everybody assumed baked items were healthy items, but now studies say otherwise! The presence of hydrogenated fats in baked items is what makes it so lethal for you. Hydrogenated fats are supposed to be the most harmful of artificial additives and should be avoided at all costs.

Burgers -

Burgers are extremely popular among teenagers and school-going children today because they are a quick meal, they are classified as 'cool' and they are easily available at every nook and corner. But a burger is nothing but a greasy, badly-made, unhealthy snack. And burgers always come with french fries, their partner-in-crime. The kinds of trans fats in burgers and fries are not at all healthy for your system and should be avoided completely. Add to it the cholesterol, nitrites, saturated fats and calorie content and you may just be chewing on a time-bomb!

Samosas -

Ah, the trusted Indian snack. People believe it is better than most 'western' snacks, but that is far from the truth. Studies have shown over and again that samosas can be very fattening, as much as any other fatty snack. Cholesterol, digestion issues, trans fats, refined flour and the unhygienic conditions under which samosas are made in India are ample reasons for you to stop eating them!

Chocolates -

Everybody loves chocolates! Fact is, chocolates are high on fats and calories. Though they do have some positive effects on the body, excessively consuming chocolate can make you fat. It can also cause tooth decay and increase sugar levels in your system. So take it easy on the chocolates from now on!

Colas -

Carbonated beverages have become an integral part of fast food today. Almost every snack comes with the mandatory bottle of cola. Not only do they contain no nutrients, they supposedly contain harmful ingredients like sugar, caffeine, phosphates etc. Colas have also been shown to affect your teeth.

Ice-creams -

Though ice creams are just supposed to be frozen milk, there are a lot of additives that go into ice cream today, making it harmful. Many ice cream companies add flavours and preservatives in their ice creams to make them last longer and taste better, but there is no real clarity on whether these substances are really healthy or even safe. Additives apart, eating ice cream too often can also increase your daily fat intake. Not advisable for those who want to lose weight!

Creamy Desserts -

Pastries, cupcakes, cream cakes etc. are yummy and really complement a good meal, but maybe you should think twice the next time. Creamy desserts are extremely rich and the icing or toppings that go on these desserts are almost always 100% fat. Consuming such large proportions of fat can be very harmful for the body. Also, they almost immediately add to your waistline.

Street Food -

Street food is probably the most dangerous of the lot, because not only do these items pose a risk of weight-gain, they can also make you sick. Street food has been observed to be made in very unhygienic surroundings, therefore threatening to expose you to various diseases. Also, repeated use of oil causes the formation of certain substances which are harmful to your heart. And street food vendors are notorious for using the same oil over and over again, for profitability.

Healthy Snacks for Kids

Kids require healthy food when growing up, and as a parent it is your duty to go the extra mile to ensure he does not binge on unhealthy snacks. The best way to keep your child from eating outside is by making snacks for him at home. There are a lot of kid snack recipes available online that you can try out. They are simple to make and will make your child prefer healthy, home food.
You should also educate him on the ill effects of fast food with practical examples. Find tasty alternatives for burgers and chips and similar items. You can also minimize the oil you put in your snacks and choose to bake them instead.
With these snacks in mind, you too can adopt a healthier lifestyle. Just stay off these 10 fatty snacks!
