Preschooler's Growth and Development (5 Years, 7-Month-Old)

Language development will be more pronounced now and the preschooler will have a grasp over native language also. Read on to know what you can expect from her at this stage.
If you are wondering what to expect this month, an overview shall help you develop ideas about what you can expect from her now. Development and growth happens in different ways. Here we have attempted to take a look at some of them.

Social Development

The amount of family time she enjoys and time she spends playing with other children shall help in her social development. Since she is attached to you, it shall get difficult for her to stay away from you when she starts schooling.
Once she loves the idea of going to school, she shall develop quite a lot more ideas and behave differently as well. She shall start fitting herself in the world of new rules. It is normal if she looks tired and confused at times. Do not be surprised if you see her teary or bossy after returning home. It might just be a way of dealing with pressures.
You can expect her to be sympathetic towards others and more responsible towards her siblings. She shall enjoy playing with others or engage in the make believe tasks.
She is becoming more and more confident each day and shall want to be treated seriously. You may expect her to seek your permission before trying something. This is because she has learnt to abide by rules now and knows the difference between right and wrong.

Development of Understanding

She now has her own views about the world around. She now loves the idea of following rules. Following the rules gives her opportunity to try different things.
The Concept of Time and Shape
She is now also developing an understanding for concepts like time and space. However, do not expect her to tell the time now. She shall be smarter when it comes to sorting size, shapes and colours. She can also name quite a few colours.

The Concept of Small and Big

By the time she grows a little more, she shall be able to arrange things in order such as small to big, based on the same shape or colour and so on. She shall understand that even if things are arranged differently, the quantity shall remain the same.

Development of Drawing Skills

She shall now be able to draw different human body parts like the head, mouth and nose. You can also ask her to draw a house with windows and doors. Even though she may be able to read big words, she may be able to identify letter and read three to four letter words them yet.

Language Development

She must have mastered a fair grasp over her native language. However, she shall find it difficult to explain complicated things and may talk leaving out some bits. She shall also find it difficult to understand complicated commands. Thus, you need to explain things clearly to her, in a way she understands.
You shall find her speaking some languages you never speak at home. This becomes common when she starts going to school. Rather than scolding her, you can make her use alternate languages.
She shall be able to converse with you at ease now. You can get answers when you ask her about her name, address, birthday and age.
She will love to hear short stories and narrate some on her own. You can expect her to laugh at jokes, love listen to music or rhymes.
You need to be supportive and encourage her for every new thing she tries. Comparing her with others all the time shall not be fair. Give her the chance to enjoy while she is growing up. As always, for all your queries you have the doctor by your side. So, enjoy watching her grow!
