Preschooler's Growth and Development (5 Years, 6-Month-Old)

The development of your little one depends on your role as a parent. Foster healthy growth and development of your 5 years, 6-months-old by setting good behavioural patterns.
Do you feel the action packed behaviour of your little one is hampering her daily routines and behaviour? Well, this is perhaps what most of the parents of 5 year old children think. With the world expanding to her every single day, she has so much to do! To know about the general characteristics and behaviour of a 5 year old in her 6th month, continue reading.

A Look at Her Eating Habits

She must have developed her preference for food now. While you must be lucky if you find her gobbling down all the vegetables, do not worry even if it is otherwise. She shall need some more time to understand the importance of following the right diet.
Do not be surprised if your little one suddenly decides she wants pasta in the breakfast. Make it a habit for her to sit together for breakfast. Mealtimes must be fun times for her.

Her Sleep Patterns

It is important to establish good sleeping habits. If she is keen on letting go off the naps, send her to bed early in the evening. While waking up at night is quite common now, she shall be sleeping all through the night with time. If you think the problem of bed wetting still exists, you may prefer not to offer any fluids to her before bed.
Your child may sleep for around 12 hours now. The good sleep habits that you inculcate in her now shall help her in the future.

Behavioural Patterns and Disciplining Measures

The behavioural problems that your child may suffer from may not be the same like another 5 year old. These issues are directly related to the individual personalities. Your child is going though plenty of changes and what she sees around influences her personality to a great extent.
She is adjusting to a new school environment and is going through separation anxieties as well. She may also be under pressure not been able to meet her own expectations at times. It is important you pay close attention to her and help her learn to cooperate.
She will have the natural urge to test her limitations and boundaries now. Since her motor skills are not yet developed completely, she shall feel frustrated upon not been able to achieve something. These anxieties and frustrations can give rise to behavioural issues like dawdling, defiance, back talk and so on.
What you can do as parents is, develop good relations and communication habits with her to find a solution together. She shall be more verbal than before now and is in a good position to emotionally and cognitively hold conversations about her problems.

Daily Chores

While your little one may want to complete the complicated tasks, she may yet not be ready for them. However, you can rely on her for the simple chores like putting clothes for the laundry, packing up the toys, caring for the pets like feeding and so on. Not only will these keep her engaged, she shall also develop better confidence. Developing a sense of responsibility from this tender age shall reap rich dividends for her in the future.
While your child takes few steps forward, she shall also step back at times when faced by setbacks. It is important to keep her enthused and positive all through the journey of growth and development.
For any other queries about development of your little one, you can always get in touch with a doctor.
