Preschooler's Growth and Development (5 Years, 1-Month-Old)

Preschooler in the 1st month of her 6th year will be showing several developments. Have a look at the developments you can expect this month and take care of developmental concerns.
If you are measuring your child's development, you need to take clues from the way she speaks acts and learns different things. When it comes to the developmental milestones, these should be taken as the activities and skills that most of the children at this age are capable of.
Here is a list of milestones you can expect her to attain in the 1st month after the completion of her 6th year. Take a look:

Emotional and Social Developments

  • You may find her trying to please people she comes across.
  • She shall be eager to make new friends.
  • She shall slowly get aware of her sex.
  • She shall have concern and sympathy towards others.
  • She will still love to engage in the make-believe games.
  • While she may appear demanding at times, she may also turn cooperative.
  • She shall assert her independence now.

Communication Skills

  • She shall be able to communicate easily and in full sentences now.
  • She shall be able to speak using the right tenses too.
  • You can expect her to say her name and also her address.

Development of Cognitive Skills

She has developed her cognitive skills too to a certain extent. Let us take a look below:
  • She shall now be comfortable to draw various objects.
  • She shall be able to copy geometric shapes and triangles now.
  • She now has a clear idea about use of food, money and the daily tools.

Physical Developments:

Her physical developments are also going on along with her mental developments. Take a look at what you can expect from her now.
  • She shall be able to stand on a single foot for some time now.
  • She will love doing the somersaults.
  • She shall love the climbs and swings.
  • You can expect her to learn some of the table manners like use of butter knife and spoon.
  • She will continue with her skips, falls and hops now.

When to Consult a Doctor:

While these are some of the developments you can expect this month, here are some issues that you may want to discuss with your doctor. Have a look below:
  • Inform your doctor if you feel she does not show much emotion.
  • You need to be concerned if she shows extreme sadness, aggression or fearfulness.
  • If you find her disinterested in most of the activities and does not participate in most of them.
  • If you find her responding very superficially.
  • If she is not able to use her tenses well.
  • If she is not capable of speaking in small sentences.
  • If she never shows interest in drawing pictures.
  • If you find her regressing and losing most of her skills.
  • If she is not yet capable of dressing, combing or washing her hands yet.
However, you need to remind yourself time and again that developmental milestones are only general guidelines and every child has her own pace for development. Rather than pressurising your child unnecessarily, it is better to hold conversations with your doctor. He shall be the right person to suggest solutions to your problems. If necessary, your preschooler shall be suggested a specialist, who shall take care of her developmental concerns.
Moms tell us what new skills your little one exhibited at the 1st month of the 6th year. Share your experiences with us; also do not hesitate to give suggestions that would be helpful to other moms. We would love to hear from you!

What developments are expected from a 5 year old? When should parents be concerned about development of preschooler? What activities are ideal for a preschooler during the 6th year of his or her development? Discuss here
