Is yoga only for the yogis? You must have heard of some well-known yogasanas like Chakrasana, Dhanurasana, and Paschimottanasana. Yoga has enormous health benefits and anyone can practice it. Children can do yoga and improve their concentration span. Pregnant women can practice yoga, making the journey of pregnancy easy. Yoga is for youngsters, yoga is for adults, yoga is for everyone.
Yoga was invented and studied about 5000 years ago in the interiors of India. People practiced yoga for ages and they are still practicing it. People started believing in the power of meditation and mantras. They realised the positive effect of breathing exercises on their mind, body and souls. Hindus valued the power of positive vibration they get by enchanting 'Om'.
Yogasanas are postures which have to be attained by following certain rhythmic movements. These movements are based on controlled breathing. Inhaling and exhaling at the right time is necessary to get most out of your yoga practice. Various forms of yoga were immerged in the last several years from the already known yogasanas. Bikram yoga is one of the popular forms of yoga. Beginners should learn Bikram yoga from a yoga instructor.

What is Bikram yoga?

While the beauties of the tinsel town are opting for power yoga to be size zero, Bikram yoga is quiet popular amongst people trying to cope with a stress. Bikram yoga which is also known as Hot yoga was discovered by Bikram Choudhury and a Los Angeles based company. At the age of four Bikram started receiving his yoga lessons. 30 years ago Bikram came up with the concept of Bikram yoga. He further developed it. He was the winner of the National India Yoga Contest at the age of 13. He established yoga schools all over the world.
Bikram yoga is practiced in a room heated to 105°F (40.5°) The room should be adequately humid. The humidity in the room should be around 40 per cent. One class of Bikram yoga goes on for 90 minutes. Bikram yoga is all about balance. It comprises of 26 yoga postures and two breathing exercises practiced in the humid and heated room. Bikram yoga classes are also referred as Bikram studios.
It is a myth that your body needs to be flexible if you want to practice yoga. On the other way round, regular yoga practice makes your body flexible.

Instructions for Bikram yoga

In the Bikram yoga class 26 poses are practiced in a same sequence. If you are a novice then you have to go slow. Your Bikram yoga instructor would be the right person to guide you with breathing and postures if you are starting for the first time. Keep in mind the following instructions before getting started with the sessions.
  • If you are feeling shy or do not have time to go to a yoga class, you can invest in self-help videos and books to learn Bikram yoga at home.
  • Avoid eating too much before starting your Bikram yoga session. For better results do not eat anything for two hours before starting your practice.
  • Drink plenty of water in between the postures. Keep yourself well-hydrated.
  • Practicing Bikram Yoga at home along with the company of a friend will make learning enjoyable.
  • Avoid practicing Bikram Yoga if you are pregnant, have high blood pressure or suffer from asthma.
