Diwali Recipes for Diabetic Patients

Sugar is an inseparable part of Diwali sweets. However, diabetic patients can prepare few sweets for Diwali using artificial sweeteners. Read on to find some recipes which can be prepared for Diabetic patients on the occasion of Diwali.

Festival is a time when varieties of food items are served and it becomes difficult to refuse everything even for diabetic patients. Diabetics have to take utmost care of their diet always. Though it is health plan and taking care of yourself and your health, at times of festivals diabetics feel slightly depressed as they cannot have rich food items and sweets fearing increase in the their blood sugar level.

If someone in your family is diabetic, you can help him have sweets and enjoy Diwali this year. There are plenty of recipes for diabetic patients and with the help of artificial sweetener you can make sweets and other traditional food items without much fuss and hassle. There are some tips that if the diabetics follow, they can manage and have some sweets too in the evening of Diwali.

Diwali Recipes for Diabetic Patients

Sugar is an inseparable part of sweets prepared on the occasion of Diwali. However, some sweets can be prepared using artificial sweeteners. Have a quick look at the recipes which can be prepared using artificial sweeteners.

Kheer –

This is a traditional Indian sweet preparation that is usually prepared on all festivals and special occasions in family. Boil one liter of milk and add a handful of raw rice to it after washing it with water. You need to keep stirring and also keep the flame low. Do not add artificial sweetener even when the rice is done. Let the milk get reduced to 2/3 rd or 1/2 as desired by the people you are going to serve. Add small pieces of different dry fruits to it at least 10 minutes before taking it off from fire. When hot, add artificial sweetener and let it cool down. You can also add artificial sweetener once the kheer is chilled.

Sandesh –

This is a sweet that is usually connected with east India. Take one liter of milk and when it starts boiling, add 2 – 3 teaspoon of lime juice and let the milk turn into fresh cottage cheese. Mash it till the mixture becomes soft. Add cinnamon powder and artificial sweetener and convert it into balls or make it flat. The shape and size can be as desired by you.

Pancakes –

There are lot of pancakes that can be prepared. They are sweet as well as spicy. Depending on the choice of the person you can prepare the item.

Just keep in mind that preparing sweet items with artificial sweetener will not only keep you free from the tension of having your sugar level increased, but also give you a delicious choice to enjoy and celebrate the festival.

Tips for Diabetic Patients on Diwali

Here are some health tips for diabetic patients on the occasion of Diwali.

Prepare for the Evening –

Along with preparing sweets and other food items with artificial sweeteners you can also prepare your body for the evening. Add food with low or minimum calories from the morning so that your body can easily digest one or two sweets that you cannot avoid. Usually this is the case with the sweets that are offered to the deity and everyone is supposed to have it as ‘prasad’.

Count on Calories –

Remember, it is the matter of calories and so if you mind and keep a count of them you will save your blood sugar level from increasing. Make sure you have your blood tested before and after Diwali so that you can control it immediately. You can walk after dinner to have a little workout and shred some calories from being added.

Along with preparing sweets and other food items carefully, calculating the intake of calories on the Diwali day will also help you enjoy with full vigour and enthusiasm. You will be preparing all the sweets using artificial sweeteners but try to avoid artificial sweeteners as much as you can. Consult your doctor regarding the intake of artificial sweeteners and take health tips from your doctor on sweet consumption on Diwali.

I think it is not a good idea to cook with sugar free. sugar free should be added only after cooking is complete.
