A 28-Month-Old Toddler's Development (2 years, 4-month-old)

You may face eating concerns for your 28 month old toddler. Learn about the developments which can be expected in a 28 month old toddler and concerns that are common among the parents of toddlers.

Even if she is almost 2.5 year old, she may still appear the little girl for you. She now strongly feels a part of the family and everything she does, centres round you. You may feel overwhelmed with her energies now.

Here we shall take a look at some of her growth and developments this month:

28-Month-Old Toddler’s Growth and Development

You need to remember that every child is unique and thus you should not unnecessarily worry if she does not follow the exact pattern stated in the developmental charts. There are many factors like illness, trauma, premature birth that affects growth and development of a child. In most of the cases there is nothing to worry.

Now that she is almost 2.5 years, she may start using the toys the way they have been designed. You may find her cuddling her teddy or pushing a car. Be prepared for plenty of banging and thrashing around now. You will also find her repeating the same activity several times.

Some of the concerns that are common among the parents of a 2.5 years is, disinterest in making eye contacts or inability to frame long sentences.

Gross motor delays are some of the other concerns that you need to be watchful of. You need to notify the doctor if she is not running, hopping or climbing stairs yet. Your doctor may refer your toddler to a specialist for assessment. Child development therapies can help her cope with some of her developmental delays.

Play Sessions and Interactions

It is better to encourage her in activities that involve all senses. Listening, touching, looking and feeling objects and toys shall help in her all round development. If you are playing with her, it is good to come down to her level and encourage her. She will love opening, stretching, pushing and pulling toys and explore her body movements.

She will love exploring her surrounding all through the day. She will be naturally inquisitive to look into what lies in the cupboard and will love to clean up drawers imitating you. Buy her toys that involve general movements. Playing times now are all about quiet times, stimulation, rest and activities.

Eating Patterns of a Toddler

You may find that your toddler may not like to eat vegetables and fruits. Even if you are hiding the veggies among her favourite foods, she shall be able to find them. Eating issues are common among toddlers of this age and you need to be more patient.

Make sure you are not offering her junks just to fill up her stomach when she is refusing to eat anything. Feeding with a spoon or asking her to use a spoon shall garner more interest from her.

You can also engage her in kitchen chores or while you are making a dish. Remember, she shall also learn eating looking at your eating behaviours.

Do not be obsessed about keeping the meal times clean. You can always clear away the mess once she is done with her food. It is very important that you change your expectations and acknowledge her behaviours.

Health Concerns in Toddlers

Apart from her eating concerns, you may also be bothered about her frequent bouts of fever, cold and coughs. However, there is no need to hurry if she shows signs of little fever. Make sure you are not getting over concerned if she refuses to drink or eat much. Let her sleep and feed her in small potions frequently.

Viral infections generally cause fever and paracetamol doses shall help her recover. It is better to avoid antibiotics, unless advised by the doctor. Cough, cold and fevers are common at this age, as she is going out and playing in the open fields and parks. It is easy for her to contract the virus from other toddlers, with whom she is plying.
