A 20-Month-Old Toddler's Development

Learn the smart parenting tips and help in 20-month-old toddler’s development. Find out the developments that you can expect in your 20-month-old toddler.
Your toddler now has plenty of things to keep herself busy. It will be better if you set up playing zones for her and ensure she is safe in there. If you are looking for some discipline and neatness at home, it may be difficult for you to find that now. She is now busy exploring her skills and shall ignore the household mess completely.
It is better to have realistic expectations from her. You can take her to the parks, where she can vent out all her energies. Playing with toddlers of her age shall also help her develop her social skills. However, do not worry if she is not too keen on playing with other kids now.
When you maintain a predictable routine, it becomes easier for her to expect what shall come up next. This is the time when you can teach her some values like being patient, waiting for her turn and so on.
Here we shall take a look at some of the other developments that you can expect in your 20-month-old toddler.

Toddler’s Growth and Development

Your19 month old toddler is not only capable of running now but she has also developed her speed. She is now capable of bending down and picking up objects that might have fallen down. She shall also love climbing up a standing ladder. However, you may not find her much enthusiastic about taking a walk with you and you may still have to take the stroller.
You must develop the habit of taking her out with you whenever you go out. You can also involve her in the activities that you are performing. Picking flowers, collecting weeds and gardening are some activities she shall love to participate in. However, make sure that does not put dirty hands in her mouth.
You must draw a fine line between compromising with safety and offering her sufficient space. By the time you have perfected in one of your skills, you may find your toddler advancing to the next level and this is fairly the case with most of the parents.

Interactive Games and Playful Activities

Tissue boxes, toilet rolls and egg cartons shall be some of his best toys now. While you may have gifted her most expensive toys, you will still find her interested in simple things like papers and boxes.
You can supply her with plenty of non toxic crayons and colours, so that he can engage in some drawing. Encourage her to explore her creativity and imagination. You can also participate in her games and help her discover new things every day.
Reading to her is one of the best ways you can communicate with her. Even though she may not understand everything you are reading out to her, she shall surely enjoy the expressions you put in while reading. This shall also be a good way to help her improve her vocabulary.

Eating Patterns of a Toddler

Your toddler may show interest in what you eat. You can try the bread with peanut butter for her for breakfast. You may find her opening the two halves of the bread and licking the butter to her joy. Do not bother about the mess and rather show her the right ways.
You can also engage her in preparing food with you. Simple things like fetching the bread, putting the lettuce or bringing the spoon shall keep her enthused. Toddlers love when you give them responsibilities.
The snacks that she takes must be healthy ones like whole grain crackers, fruits or cereal bars. The junks shall do no good and further cause tooth decays.
You can be little imaginative while serving foods to her in plates. You can use different cooked vegetables to create a funny face or create a clown to draw her interest in the plate. Eating meals together shall also help her learn to eat faster.
Smart parenting includes devising effective strategies as and when required. You will be amazed to see how smart a parent you have become with time!
