It is not just because celebrities are doing it but there are other factors which are leading to rising single parenting through adoption in India. Read on to find few questions which will help you to understand why single parenting through adoption is rising in India and what are the challenges faced by an adoptive single parent.

1.  What are the reasons behind rise of single parenting through adoption in
India?

Have a quick look at the following points to know about the reason behind rising single parenting through adoption.

Lifestyle Changes and Increasing Literacy

Single parenting is rising because the way of living has changed.  It is rising because priorities of people are changing as literacy level is also rising. Educated people do not consider marriage as their priority but they want to build their career and at the same time enjoy parenting.

Different Way of Thinking

The mentality of people has changed; they think that to become a parent it is not necessary to get married. People are becoming self depend with respect to income and way of living. Also with increasing literacy level the need of having a biological child is vanishing.

Increasing Awareness about Single Parenting through Adoption

Also because of media, interest and awareness about single parenting and adoption is increasing. But the assumption that people prefer to become single parents because of celebrities who are single parents through adoption is wrong.

2.  Do you think Feminist Laws i.e. 498a, Domestic Violence Act, Maintenance, Child Custody etc; have created havoc amongst eligible bachelors and they have started fearing marriage?

Here are couple of points which will help you understand why eligible bachelors choose to become single parent through adoption.

Eligible Bachelors have become More Self-Dependent

Eligible bachelors fear marriage definitely not because of the reasons like feminist laws, domestic violence act, maintenance, child custody etc. They do not want to get married as they have become more self dependent and unlike traditional Indian way of living life (i.e.; getting married at the age of 25 and getting settled with kids) the life of people has become career oriented. However, people may prefer to get married after that.

Influence of Western Culture

You will notice that western culture is highly influencing people in India. People are not bound by anything and want to live their life in their own way. The number of nuclear families is increasing. The traditional Indian joint families can be rarely seen. Most of the educated and young men and women do not even stay with their parents. People of India have accepted this change which is favourable for rise in single parenting.

3.
Do you think single parenting needs extra care to the adopted child? Please focus on psychological aspects of single parenting and point out major problems being faced by a single parent.

Find why single parenting needs extra care to the adopted child and major problems faced by a single parent.

Single Parent has to play a Dual Role

Yes, single parenting needs extra care as parent has to play two roles. At the same time it is necessary for the parent to make the child feel wanted. In general, single parenting is not easy and there is one more layer added to it if the child is an adopted child.

Adoptive Parent has to Prepare Herself and Child to Face Challenges

As an adoptive parent, parent should prepare himself or herself to tell the child at the right age that he or she is adopted. At the same time the parent should be ready to make child mentally prepared to face that fact that he or she is adopted.

It is very necessary for parent to raise the child in a way that the child is also able to face other social issues. Child should have answers to all the questions which his or her friends may ask him. The literacy is increasing and people in India are ready to accept change and issues like single parenting and adoption. Therefore, this change is gradually also making this process of becoming a single parent through adoption and raising that child easier.

An adoptive single parent has to face lot of challenges while raising child. However, the joys of single parenting through adoption are unique. Though adoptive single parenting is challenging but it makes the life of single parent and adoptive child very beautiful.

I agree to Hema that Sushmita Sen is an inspiration to many young girls to go for an adoption and become a single parent through adoption. It is very essential for parents to understand that instead of having two blological children they can have one biological child and other child trough adoption.
