Top 10 Foods for Boosting Child's Immunity

Top 10 Foods for Boosting Child's Immunity
Are you aware of the remedies for boosting child’s immunity? Have a quick look at the 10 super foods easily available in the market which you can include in your child’s diet to boost his or her immunity.

One of the best methods to develop a strong immune system within your child is to select a wide variety of food items that are recognised for their ability to boost the immune system. You will notice that other parents encourage their children to eat healthy foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as vegetables and fruits, whole grains, and learn proteins. While these are important items and greatly benefit your kid’s health, there are more foods that help maintain a solid immune system with the intention of warding off illnesses and infections.

10 Super foods for Boosting Child’s Immunity

There is no single food material available in the market which acts as a silver bullet – i.e. promises optimal immune system function for your children, but a combination of good food should be included in the diet of your child, especially once the cold and flu season sets in.

  1. Garlic

There are different kinds of studies which indicate how garlic possesses both antiviral and antibacterial properties. This particular taste enhancer has the power to stimulate the production of white blood cells within the body, and can even serve the function of an antioxidant for your kid.Garlic has a pungent flavour and it is possible that your kid might not want to ingest it directly to avoid bad breath. However, you can put garlic into chicken noodle soup to help prevent cold and flu symptoms. You can also add garlic bits to your child’s salad.
  2. Mushrooms

Mushrooms are extremely potent weapons that may be used to avoid flu, colds and other infections. Different types of mushrooms have varying antibacterial, antiviral and anti-tumour effects. You can get your kid to eat mushrooms on a regular basis by including them in sandwiches. Some mushrooms such as shitake may be sliced up and stirred into other dishes to add flavour to them.
  3. Brightly Coloured Vegetables

Important antioxidants, especially carotenoids, are found in vegetables and they help protect the immune system in kids. Carotenoids happen to be present mainly in bright orange, green and yellow vegetables and this is the reason why kids should be persuaded to add all colours of vegetables to their diet since they work together to strengthen the immune system in the child. You can make delicious vegetable lasagne with different coloured vegetables or create yummy vegetable soup to feed your young ones. Capsicum, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce leaves are good examples of brightly coloured vegetables.
  4. Nuts

Nuts contain a whole lot of proteins, minerals and vitamins and they are also rich in antioxidants such as omega fatty acids, zinc and Vitamin E. Not all kids love nuts but if you slather some all-natural pure nut butter on a slice of whole wheat bread or celery, it will be the perfect antioxidant rich snack for children. For younger kids, always grind the nuts to prevent choking hazard.
  5. Berries

Berries contain lots of bioflavonoids, vitamin C and phytochemicals that may help avoid injury to cells and act as antioxidants. Most kids seem to love berry smoothies and so, it is best if you serve them one on a regular basis. Try to include strawberries, blueberries, black grapes, prunes and pomegranates in your kid’s diet.
  6. Fish

Fish contains Omega 3 fatty acids as well as other healthy fats that seek to increase the activity levels of white blood cells. They also play a major role in the formation of compounds that enhance immunity within the body. Kids are deficient in omega 3 fatty acids and so the best way to gain some is by the eating of fatty fish like salmon, tuna and mackerel.
  7. Sweet Potato

Skin is an essential aspect of the immune system since it serves as the first line of defense against viruses and bacteria. Skin, especially in children, requires vitamin A to stay healthy. One of the best sources of vitamin A is sweet potato which contains beta-carotene that is converted by the human body into vitamin A.
  8. Yogurt

Yogurt or curd is capable of strengthening the intestinal tract in children from gastro-intestinal illnesses. The food helps to enhance resistance to immune-related diseases like cancer and infection.
  9. Poultry, Lean Meats

Lean meats and poultry contain high amounts of zinc which leads to greater production of T-cells and white blood cells. Chicken soup can be a really good addition to your kid’s diet.
  10. Oats and Barley

Kids should include these grains in their diet since they are rich in beta-glucan, a sort of fiber that contains antimicrobial and antioxidant properties.
Kids do not prefer all sorts of foods and so it is up to you to come up with innovative methods to introduce these particular food items into their diet which will enable them to strengthen their immune system. None of these items are hard to come by in the market and you can serve them on a regular basis to your kids in the form of various dishes.

Which foods can help children to develop strong immune system? How to include foods which help to boost immunity in child’s diet? What to do if child is not eating properly? Discuss here.

It is very important to include fruits in diet of children. I give fruits in form of salads to my kids and they love eating it when I put a little jelly with ice cream on top.
