Celebrating Republic Day of India

Celebrating Republic Day of India

Republic Day of India celebrated on 26th January showcases the diversity and richness of Indian culture. Know how Republic Day is celebrated in India.

Republic Day is the celebration of the constitution of India coming into force. It was in 1950, 26th January that the constitution of India came into effect and India became a sovereign nation. In simple terms through the constitution of India, the nation building process acquired shape and momentum and India was now a unit.

The immense sacrifice of all the people who had fought for the freedom of the country was realised and India was recognised by the entire world as a sovereign and free nation which was run by the sacred constitution, or governing instrument. This makes 26th January every year as a very special day, when all Indians share the joy and excitement of freedom and patriotism.

How is the Republic Day celebrated?

Here is how the 26th January, the Republic Day of India is celebrated.

Republic Day Celebration Across India

26th of January is celebrated every year with great enthusiasm and pomp in every part of the country. The national flag is unfurled and there are parades and processions where people participate spontaneously, remembering all those martyrs who sacrificed their lives and comfort to attain the independence of this nation from the British rule.

Republic Day Celebration in New Delhi

The main celebration takes place in the national capital, New Delhi, where the President of India gives away the Padma Chakras or the bravery awards to the soldiers, Jawans and army men who have displayed exceptional acts of bravery and courage in order to secure the protection of our borders and our countrymen. Other civilians who have displayed extraordinary acts of courage in saving lives of fellow people are also awarded and acknowledged.

The Parade

The Rajpath and Vijaypath are graced by a very colourful and enthusiastic parade where each state comes in with their traditions of art and music. This pageant of spectacular display is looked forward to by the world, as we display the diversity and richness of Indian culture. After all, these are the very components of a united India. Each year a world leader or some head of state is invited and it is considered to be a great honour to be invited as a dignitary on this occasion.

The other attraction of the Republic Day is the display of startling acts of creative valour by the armed forces, be it the motorcycle pyramid or the gushes of coloured smoke evicted by the air-planes. The missiles and weapons that secure our borders are also put on display in the parade. The three regiments of our armed forces namely, the army, navy and the air force march past in all their official decorations and fill the air with a sense of tremendous national fervour. This is a great exercise that has been performed since 1950 and each detail of the parade is rehearsed with great care and planned with great precision so that each drill, prop or uniform is perfect on the 26th of January.

These are all ingredients that build up the feeling of patriotism in the heart of every Indian. We feel proud to witness the achievements of our great nation and also simultaneously remember and pay our respect to all those army Jawans who protect our borders. They lay down their lives selflessly only to secure the protection of their countrymen. The Republic Day is an occasion to remember all these martyrs and also pledge that we should fulfil our respective responsibility in maintaining the unity and integrity of this nation.

I have just come to India and this is my second time. Last time I came in January and watched the Republic Day Parade in Delhi. I just loved it. It amazes me to see the variety of colours, costumes and everything. I just love Indian culture and traditions. This time I have once again come to see the Parade.

For me Republic Day is not just a holiday but it means remembering the role of common people in the freedom struggle. I am proud of my tricolour. I always pick up any flags lying on the road the next day.

I love to watch the parade on Republic Day. I get to know about varied cultures and customs of India. The most attractive part is the stunts performed by the armed forces.
