Fruits You Must Include in Your Childs Diet during Winters

Fruits You Must Include in Your Childs Diet during Winters

Including fruits in the diet of children is a must to boost their immunity and overall health. Let take a look at the fruits to be included in children’s diet during winters.

As visually pleasing the colourful and crunchy winter fruits look; they also complete the diet essentials required for your child’s good health. Nutrients are required to complete a balanced diet for good health, development and growth of your child.

Inculcating Fruit eating Habit

This is a great time to make fruit eating a habit as winter brings with it a pleasing variety of enjoyable fruits. Children learn by example and if you eat fruits together and enjoy eating them, there a chances that your child will happily adopt the habit.

Getting Creative with Fruit

Fruits are the first solid food that a baby eats and they get fussy with food after the first year when they become independent in eating. You may eat them fresh or make sweet dishes, side dishes or dips to include them in the child’s diet.

The varieties to experiment with

Winter brings with it the best all year round produce with a great variety; Apple, Banana, Guava Oranges, Strawberries, Cranberry, Kiwi, Grapes (Regular and Red), Lemon, Pear etc.

Winter Fruits, Their Benefits and How to Eat Them

Guava

Guavas come in a colour variety ranging from yellow to bright red and offer as many antioxidants as broccoli does. Guavas may be sliced and eaten fresh or used as an ingredient with a meal.
Sauce up your Guava
Guavas make a wonderful sauce for vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes like dry spicy soya balls and grilled non-veg dishes. The sauce can be made using daily ingredients and is easy to make. After making a puree of the pulp, add onion, citrus juice and spices and it is ready to serve.

Papaya

Papaya is rich in vitamin A and also includes an enzyme called papain which helps in digestion.
Twist the Flavour with Papaya
Ripe papayas may be added to the spicy tomato salsa as a healthy sweet ingredient to balance the tangy flavour. The green papayas may be used for salad dressing or toss some sesame-soy dressing on shredded papaya to create an Asian slaw.

Strawberries

Strawberry is rich source of vitamins and antioxidants. The sweet and sour flavour leaves a tingling taste.
Toss in Salad
Strawberries add colour, sweetness and texture and work as perfect salad fixings.
A Healthy after Meal Sweetener
The simplest way is to dip strawberries in chocolate. They are pleasing to the eye and the tummy. Or get creative with the buttermilk after meal and add roasted strawberries to buttermilk, ice cream for a healthy and rich dessert, or just make a refreshing strawberry sorbet.
If like baking, then other palatable options are Strawberry and Rhubarb pie or what kids really enjoy are mini pies on a stick so make Strawberry Pie Pops! Or you may simply make a beautiful trifle by adding marinated Strawberries in fresh whipped cream and layer the mix on fresh pound cake. A fast and yummy recipe!
As a Snack
Make a homemade strawberry shake or sprinkle some castor sugar and enjoy strawberries with drizzled balsamic vinegar. If your kids are fussy with yogurt, get creative and make an Indian Smoothies; blend strawberries with yogurt, sugar, black pepper and basil and let them enjoy a healthy treat.

Oranges and Lemons

Oranges and lemons are available in abundance in winters. Oranges and Lemons are rich in Vitamin C and help to keep common illnesses in children at bay. These fruits are also rich in various nutrients that can help to boost their immunity and help them stay fit during winter.
Orange and Lemon Juice
Kids will never say ‘no’ when you serve Orange or Lemon Juice to them. Although it is best to eat fruits as a whole but making juice is one of the ways to include these fruits in your child’s diet. You can make Orange or Lemon Juice or mix both to make a lovely mock-tail for your child.
You can get creative with all varieties of fruits and make fruit eating a healthy and interesting habit for your child. Also instead of serving fatty, high in calorie sweet dishes that just bring bad health, you can transform the buttermilk, yogurt or ice-cream and teach your child to eat healthy nutritious fruit varieties.

Children don't eat fruits as a whole, so making salads and smoothies can help.
