Getting ready for the small new member in family surely brings a lot of excitement to a mother. Pregnancy brings a lot of pampering from dear ones. But it also brings sleepless nights. To-be-mothers may experience discomfort during nights from very first trimester or at later stage of pregnancy. Getting a sound sleep throughout night may not be possible but sticking to regular routines may help adapt situation.

Reasons for Sleep problems during Pregnancy

Sleep deprivation or discomfort in getting sound sleep is common during pregnancy. Women may start experiencing sleep issues from the very first month of their pregnancy. The most common cause for improper sleep is the frequent bathroom trips day and night, as the growing baby puts pressure on bladder. Constant pee trips during day may not be that disturbing. But at night it becomes quite difficult. Waking up for natural call is disturbing and tiring both.
Here are some more reasons why pregnant women may face sleep problems during pregnancy.

Feeling Anxiousness

Getting anxious about baby’s arrival is natural. Pregnant females may keep pondering all about baby’s well being and that can also lead to sleepless nights. Kind of emotional stress or curiosity keeps piling up during pregnancy. This could also affect sleep quality.

Nausea

Nausea feeling is most felt during initial stage of pregnancy. It likely occurs during nights or early mornings. That unwanted puking feeling may keep mothers awake in bad mood. Acidic burps or heartburns are also common reasons leading to sleep problems during pregnancy.

Hunger Calls at Night

Babies may demand for food giving hunger call to mothers at mid night. During pregnancy, it is hard to not eat while being hungry. So it becomes annoying for pregnant women to get up from their sound sleep and grab some food.

Leg Cramps

Cramping legs is another common reason for sleep problems during pregnancy. Stomach, back and leg muscles tend to loosen up from the first trimester of pregnancy to make room for baby. Because of this strength of legs is decreased. Standing for long duration or sitting without support can cause cramping and swelling in legs. The burden taken by legs during day time can give discomfort while sleeping at night.

How to Get Better Sleep during Pregnancy?

It is very essential for mothers to keep themselves hydrated during pregnancy. But drinking less water or liquid contains before going to bed may reduce their trips to bathroom to some extent.

Following a Routine

It is essential to stick to routines for ladies who are expecting. Going to bed on same time and waking up to clock can be helpful. Even if they are no feeling sleepy, just lazing on bed can help. If at all they are not feeling sleepy, listening to good relaxing music can work like a soothing therapy. This can put them to sleep anytime. Getting up on time is equally important to make sure mothers feel sleepy on time next day during pregnancy.

Daily Mild Exercise

Continuing to usual day time exercise, as suggested by doctor, is equally important during pregnancy. This would help in better blood circulation and good sleep. A good bath before going to bed can give good sleep to mothers during their pregnancy.

Having a Warm Glass of Milk before Going to the Bed

Warm glass of milk works wonder as it helps giving good sleep during pregnancy. Milk also gives relaxation from heartburns or acidic feelings. It is suggested for mothers to stay away from caffeine products during night time during their pregnancy.

Breathing in Fresh Air

Getting adequate amount of fresh air or cool atmosphere is necessary for women while sleeping during their pregnancy. Heated up room can make them uncomfortable and sleepless.
Mothers can prop themselves with soft pillows around which works as wonder. There are these special pregnancy pillows which are available in market these days. These pillows can also prove useful to get support for having a good sleep during pregnancy.
