First Trimester of Pregnancy

The first trimester of pregnancy is very important. Therefore, you need to take right care of yourself during first trimester of pregnancy. Read on to find what you will experience in your first trimester and pregnancy care tips for first trimester.

First trimester of pregnancy is the period from the beginning of the first month of pregnancy to the end of third month of pregnancy. There are many types of physical and emotional changes through which a woman goes during the first trimester of pregnancy. She is happy and excited about having her baby and at the same time anxious and scared about how things are going to turn up.

A pregnant woman has to deal with morning sickness and the good news. Well, taking account of everything, it is very important you remain healthy before, during and after pregnancy because this involves a lot of different aspects of life. You need to take care of yourself to stay healthy.

First Trimester Pregnancy Symptoms

Have a quick look at the symptoms and changes experienced during first trimester of pregnancy.

Morning Sickness –

Nausea and vomiting that is termed as 'morning sickness' is common during the first two months of pregnancy. This is because there is lot of hormonal changes going on in the body of the woman and her body reacts to it naturally.

Fatigue –

Experiencing fatigue and exhaustion in the first trimester is normal. You need to take a good night sleep and if possible take a nap in the afternoon too.

Weight Gain –

Do not panic even if you are very conscious about your weight gain because gaining one pound per month is normal when you are pregnant.

Frequent Urination –

Since the uterus is growing in size it will press your bladder and you will feel frequent urination in your early pregnancy. Consult your doctor only if there is pain or you find blood, pus or burning sensation at that time.

Changes in Your Baby –

By the end of the first trimester your baby will start taking form and the organs will start developing. The baby will weigh almost half an ounce and the size will be about 2 inches.

Pregnancy Care Tips for First Trimester

Have a quick look the pregnancy care tips for first trimester.

  • Go for a complete physical examination.
  • Find out details of your family history.
  • Undergo all required tests done.
  • Get your blood pressure, urine and weight checked.
  • Start changing your food habits and develop healthy eating habits as soon as possible.
  • Stop smoking. Stay away from passive smoking.
  • Take vitamins and supplements suggested by gynecologist.
  • Check whether you come in contact with any kind of chemicals at work or at home. Avoid coming in contact with any such chemicals.
  • Stay away from cat litter.
  • Rest when you can. No matter if it is a nap, go ahead.
  • Join a prenatal yoga or exercise class.
  • Determine your expected due date.
  • Go for regular prenatal check-ups.
  • Do not take any medicines without consulting your doctor.

Remember, the first trimester is very important for the development of fetus. The mother requires extra care about taking food, rest, water and many more, not only physically but emotionally and psychologically too. There are lots of changes going on in the pregnant woman’s body and she needs complete support from her life partner. This results in the proper development of the fetus also.

In addition there are some precautions that a pregnant woman needs to take especially during her first trimester. Traveling and taking any kind of medicine must be done only after consulting the gynecologist.

My first trimester was much better. though I experienced morning sickness symptoms but they were not severe. I had problem with smells. I could not tolerate the smell of some spices and perfumes.

I was completely on bed rest in my first trimester of pregnancy. Now I am five months. I always used to throw up and thus felt tired and fatigued. My doctor asked me take leave from work and to have rest.
