Significance of Holy Ramzan Month

Significance of Holy Ramzan Month

Ramzan or Ramadan is a holy and auspicious month as per Islam. In the month of Ramzan, Muslims fast and observe holy practices. This holy month of Ramzan is the month for Muslims to come as close to Allah as possible and seek his blessings. Read on to find more about the significance of Ramzan or Ramadan.

Ramzan or Ramadan is the holy month in the Muslim calendar. Though most of us are well aware of this fact, we do not know much about Ramzan or its significance. This month is considered very auspicious because it is believed that the holy book of Quran was sent to earth during this month.

Ramzan is the month of fast. All devoted Muslims fast throughout the month and they do not take water or food during daytime. They take food only before sunrise and after sunset. Ramzan is considered as the chief of all months and is also termed as the most glorious ones.

Important Days in Ramzan Month and its Significance

Though the entire month is considered important, the last ten days of the month are considered extremely significant and valuable.

  • Devoted Muslims remain awake the whole night and worship God along with their families during these days.
  • They try to remain away from all worldly attractions and concentrate on prayers and holy deeds as directed by the prophet.
  • The main intention is to get diverted and weaken the hindrances that are found in the path of God.
  • Muslims try cut off excessive eating and drinking, meeting many people and also sleeping too much in these days.
  • The devotees wish to remain at peace with the God and so they stay secluded and spend most of the time in the mosque so that they are as near to Allah as possible.
  • Muslims also stay awake and pray during these last ten days of the month because they look for the most special night called the Night of the Qadr.
  • The special nights are 19th, 21st and 23rd nights. Muslims stay awake during these nights and say special prayers.

Holy Practices by Muslims during Ramzan

It is not just the worship and fasting that is important and looked after by Muslims during the month of Ramzan. Different holy and philanthropic deeds that people do during these days also help them as a great source of divine favour.

  • The entire month is for fasting, divine worship, sacrifice and intensive sacrifice. They try to control all their feelings and thoughts as well during these days.
  • Seek divine blessings and mercy by doing as directed and sacrificing their worldly attractions and temptations.
  • Devotees surrender themselves in front of Allah and observe the same abstention for their behaviour, speech and every act.
  • This practice of surrendering in front of Allah is carried out for the entire month of Ramzan and especially during these important and most significant days.
  • Even if anyone quarrels with the person who is fasting, he is not allowed to reply back. Instead he is supposed to say that he is fasting at that time.
  • Muslims are directed to read Quran during these days because it purifies one’s soul, it breathes peaceful spirit to the person’s body and helps remove the only curtain hanging between Allah and humans.

No matter to what profession or vocation a Muslim is involved, this does not restrict him from following the traditions and fasting during the month of Ramzan. This holy month is said to purify one’s soul and helps in getting nearer to Allah within and after his life. This is the reason why people try to dedicate their services and acts to Allah during this month and spend more and more time praying.
