15th August is the Independence Day of India. On this day various cultural programmes are organised throughout India. Every year Indians celebrate Independence Day on August 15. From a small child to an old man is seen happy and excited. The significance of the celebration is unmatched. India received freedom from the British rule on August 15, 1947 and from that year people celebrate this day with vigor and enthusiasm.

The tri-colour flag is hoisted in schools, colleges, corporate sectors, government offices and almost everywhere in India. However, the main function is at Red Fort in New Delhi where the present Prime Minister hoists the flag. Many people even travel to New Delhi to get a glimpse of the program.

Significance of Independence Day

Independence Day is a moment of pride and glory for the people. On this day, people remember and pay tribute to the freedom fighters. Everyone tries to pay his tribute in one way or another to the people who sacrificed their lives and comforts just to free their country and countrymen from the clutches of British rule.

The preparation is done more than a month aback and every school is busy with it. Some have cultural programs after the flag hoisting is performed while some have parade and national anthem and songs played by different groups of performers.

The significance of Independence Day cannot be just calculated or measured by mere celebrations and ceremonies. It is a day that makes people proud of being Indian and they commit to memory that all men and women joined hands and worked together to bring this day into existence.

When people recall the works of big and known leaders, they also pay homage to those unsung heroes of the nation who helped make this day come into existence. There are many freedom fighters that were not known to many and they worked behind the scene and helped in this mission.

Celebration of Independence Day

Paying Honour to Nation and Flag -

The entire nation seems to be in a different mood that day. Without any discrimination, people gather in places where flag hoisting is planned and pay honour to nation and the tri-colour.

Flag Hoisting -

First, the national flag is hoisted by the chief of the organisation or head of the administration. There is no hard and fast rule about the flag hoisting process accept that in central, state and local governments. After the flag hoisting ceremony, every person standing there sings the National Anthem.

Independence Day Speeches and Programmes -

Depending on the plan and preparation, further programs are carried out. There is a short speech from the person who hoists the flag. This usually comprises of the promise to nation and asking people to make India a good place to live in.

Decorating Surroundings -

Buildings of national importance are decorated and the dominance is of saffron, white and green colour which is the colours of the National Flag. Roads are decorated with saffron, white and green papers and everywhere supremacy of these three colours is being observed.

The importance and significance of Independence Day is felt by people. Today, the need of the hour is to eradicate some of the worms from the pool of our society so that a clean, clear and confident nation comes out.

Along with being thankful to the freedom fighters, we need to recall their dreams. This is a great opportunity for all Indians to give back something to the nation. If everyone takes a pledge and starts helping needy people, start fighting against corruption and other wrong doings followed in nation, the nation will definitely progress fast.
