Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It keeps your child energetic through the long hours of school. One cannot always pack a lot in lunch boxes. Breakfast should be grand to supplement the lack of a proper meal when the kids go off to school. Even if they are at home, the long gap between breakfast and lunchtime is a busy time.
Kid study or go out to play, do their projects, etc. They need a lot of energy for that. Even if they do not have much time in the morning, as a parent you must ensure they eat breakfast. Here are some tasty and healthy options.

1. Oats Idly

These are definitely going to please your kids, while being healthy. Instead of the usual rice and pulses batter, this recipe is made with oats. So, this is healthy and tasty going hand in hand. Pair it with some coconut chutney and daal sambar to make it a complete meal. Give a new spin to the boring oatmeal and watch your kids gobble the food down.

2. Paratha Made of Dal

The usual Maida paratha is not good for your kid’s health and it soaks way too much oil. This take on the classic paratha uses dal or pulses instead of flour. The best part is, you can light toast them without having to put too much oil.

3. Thepla with Methi

This is a classic healthy Gujarat snack which makes a filling and healthy breakfast. Theplas are basically a type of paratha made with Atta, which is healthier than Maida. It also has the goodness of yogurt and can roasted on pan without using too much of oil.

4. Misal Pav

This recipe is packed with different types of vegetable, boiled together and put in a pressure cooker for them to become the gravy which can be eaten with pav or bread. This will be extremely filling if your child is to have a long day. A bowl of the gravy and a few pieces of brown bread will keep them filled for long.

5. Sesame and Beetroot Roti

This roti or flatbread is made with a mixture of beetroot and sesame which is mixed in the dough and then lightly toasted. The kids will love the colourful rotis and the savoury taste. You can make some coriander and tamarind chutney to accompany it.

6. Upma from Broken Wheat

Instead of using the traditional flattened rice, this upma is made with broken wheat which is considered an extremely healthy fibre. You can put in as many vegetable as you want, carrots, sprouts, beans, capsicum to add some flavour and colour. It requires minimum oil and is filling too.

7. Apple and Buttermilk Pancakes

Though considered a western food, our ancestors have been making pancakes since forever. If your kid does not feel like having a savoury breakfast nor has a sweet tooth this is the perfect breakfast for them which can be served occasionally. It combines the goodness of buttermilk, which is healthier than milk, and the goodness of apples.

8. Spinach Toast

Spinach is high in iron and instead of putting in a boring curry; you can put it on toast. It is healthier than the sandwich spreads. Mix the boiled peanuts with some spices and a little cream to make your kid’s breakfast colourful.

9. Dalia

Another protein rich breakfast, this is like a dal but thicker as it uses broken wheat.

10. Paneer and Coriander Sandwich

Simple lightly marinated Paneer and coriander made into a sandwich with some cheese.
