How to Avoid Miscarriage

Avoiding a miscarriage is the foremost thought in the mind of any pregnant woman. For a healthy and successful pregnancy, constant touch with the doctor is a must. The stress of avoiding miscarriage is more in case of an earlier miscarriage. Here are some tips to avoid miscarriage, read on.

In order to ensure that you do not fall victim to a possible miscarriage, it is important that you maintain a proactive approach towards your pregnancy right from the time you decide to conceive. Never miss a visit to your doctor as per schedule and report every minute discomfort or abnormality immediately. Work with your doctor and you will do your part in ensuring that you have a healthy and successful pregnancy.

Tips for Avoiding Miscarriage

Here are a few tips on how you can avoid miscarriage.

Stay Away from Cigarette Smoke

Smoking not only renders an adverse impact on your body but on your unborn child as well. There are innumerable studies that prove even passive smoke harm the health of a pregnant woman and her fetus leading to miscarriage, preterm labour, and birth of low-weight baby and even still birth.

Stay Away from Alcohol

Alcohol has a harmful impact on the developing fetus and the degree of harm depends on the regularity and amount of alcohol intake. This can lead to miscarriage and even if the pregnancy term is completed, the baby stands the risk of developing Fetal Alcohol Syndrome leading to congenital birth defects and even mental retardation.

Avoid Illegal Drugs or Medicines without Consulting your Physician

Illegal drugs can threaten your pregnancy or cause immediate miscarriage. At times they even thwart a successful conception in future too. In order to avoid miscarriage you must avoid over the counter medications even if you believe that they are ‘simple medicines’. Always consult your doctor when you feel you need supplementary medicine.

Stay Away from Caffeine

Although there is no direct link found between caffeine intake and miscarriage, but excessive caffeine can lead to complications during pregnancy and the child stands the risk of contracting diabetes. Too much of caffeine lead to hormonal imbalances; thereby, indirectly leading to abortion.

Stay Away from Junk Food

We all know that junk food is high calorie intake that is devoid of any useful protein or vitamins. During pregnancy the size of the stomach decreases in order to accommodate for the expanding uterus. So having junk food fills you up and you miss out on eating the food that is required for the healthy growth of the developing fetus. In an acute stage, the fetus cannot survive due to lack of necessary nutrients and the pregnancy gets terminated.

Avoid X-rays and Microwaves

Exposure to x-rays can lead to miscarriage as it directly harms the fetus. The risk can be eliminated if the x-ray is postponed till after the delivery of the baby. Microwave also sends out radiation that can harm the fetus and even lead to termination of pregnancy.

Stay Away from Pesticides, Paints

Every type of pesticides and several household cleaning products comprise of chemicals, which are toxic elements that can have a harmful effect on your developing fetus and even when you are trying to conceive.

Stay Away from Reptiles

There is a danger of miscarriage if you come in contact with reptiles. The faces of snakes, turtles, iguanas and even the common house lizard contain the salmonella virus that leads to the termination of pregnancy. So tell your doctor immediately if you happen to come in contact with a reptile during your pregnancy.

Avoid Stress

Stress in high levels can lead to hormonal imbalances that can even terminate pregnancy. Maintaining a soothing psychological attitude is important.

There are several other factors that must be avoided in order to prevent miscarriage like drinking bottled water as the tap water contain various elements that can harms the fetus’ immunity system. Also the body temperature of the mother must not be allowed to rise beyond 102 Fahrenheit.
