Pregnancy after Miscarriage

Pregnancy after Miscarriage

Woman should be prepared physically as well as mentally for getting pregnant after miscarriage. Read on to know about the pregnancy after miscarriage.

Miscarriage affects each woman differently. While most women experience shock and grief some bounce back easily after the experience. Depression is common in women who have a miscarriage after trying for a while to have a baby. Miscarriage can affect a woman emotionally and physically. In extreme cases it results in a feeling of dejection and a sense of loss.

How Soon Can You Conceive After a miscarriage?

This is the first question most women ask after a miscarriage. This is especially true in case of childless couples who have been trying to get pregnant for a while before the miscarriage. Most doctors recommend waiting for at least three months before trying to conceive again.

There is also another theory which suggests that simply having one menstrual cycle after the miscarriage is enough to try again. The proponents of the first theory are of the opinion that the body needs some time to recover completely both physically and mentally. Emotional recovery is as important as physical recovery of the reproductive system. However, it is always advisable to consult doctor before getting pregnant after miscarriage.

Physical Effects of a Miscarriage

  • Loss of blood during a miscarriage can cause weaknesses in body that can hinder a woman’s recovery.
  • In extreme cases extended period of hospitalisation and medical treatment may be required to handle the bodily effects of miscarriages such as bleeding and uterine perforation.
  • Infection in the womb and the fallopian tube can lead to severe damage of the uterus.

Emotional Impact of Miscarriage

The emotional impact of a miscarriage generally takes a while to heal as compared to the physical impact. It is important for women to allow themselves to grieve the loss. Over a period of time this will help them accept their loss and move on in life.

Women may experience a whole lot of emotions such as numbness, disbelief, anger, depression, sadness guilt, and difficulty concentrating post miscarriage. Irrespective of how early the pregnancy ended the sense of bonding between a mother and the unborn baby can be really strong. Emotional distress can also cause physical symptoms like fatigue, trouble in sleeping, difficulty in concentrating, loss of appetite, and frequent episodes of crying. Hormonal changes happening in the body after the miscarriage is capable of intensifying these physical symptoms.

There are different ways in which women can cope with the emotional impact of miscarriage. One of the common ways to deal with the situation is to take time off and simply take rest. Rest and recuperation will heal the body and mind quickly and help the women come to terms with her loss.

The decision to try for a baby again will depend to a large extent on how soon a woman gets over her grief and is emotionally fit to get pregnant again.

Taking Care of Yourself

If you want to have a successful pregnancy after a miscarriage you need to take care of your own needs first. This may require you to wait a bit after your miscarriage before trying to get pregnant again.

Pregnancy is a happy time of a woman’s life. To have a successful pregnancy it is important for the woman to take care of herself first. Sometimes due to sheer ill luck or medical complications a pregnancy may not be carried full term and miscarriage occurs.

Miscarriage may happen due to a number of reasons such as week or abnormal embryo and loss of blood. A woman must give herself sufficient time to recover emotionally and physically before trying for a baby after a miscarriage again. This time can never be specified and will vary from person to person.
