5 Things to Remember Before Yelling at Children

If parents keep in mind the negative repercussion of yelling at children they can avoid it. Have a quick look at the 5 things to remember before yelling at children.

It is often seen that calm voices make calmer kids. When your kids are throwing tantrums it would not be a good idea to yell back at kids to stop them from misbehaving. It will have negative consequences on kids resulting in making your kids more stubborn. So, yelling and venting anger on kids is never a good idea. You should remember the following things before yelling at children.

1. You Can Always Find Alternatives to Yelling

You should realise the fact that yelling at kids do not really work. You yell at kids because you want your kids to do exactly what you want and that too at the perfect time that you want. This urgency leads to your losing your calm and you result in yelling and shouting at your kids but to no avail. Instead of shouting you should try out some peaceful manner to find a solution for your problems. You know your kids more than anybody else knows them, so finding an alternative way through love and care would not be anything difficult for you.

2. Yelling at Kids Shuts Down their Learning Abilities
Never imbibe a habit to get things done by your kids exactly in the way you want just by yelling at them. Or before you feel that your kids will not listen to you until you yell at them, know this in your heart that this yelling shuts down the kids’ learning abilities. It shuts down their abilities to absorb information. When you yell at kids, they get used to it, and do not really pay attention to what you say. So your constant teaching them good behaviours and values of life turns out to be mere blabbering to your kids. Instead of yelling at your kids, make your kids feel that you are taking interest on them and create a bond of friendship with your kids.

3. Parent Child Relationship Suffers

When you yell at kids your kids gradually lose respect for you. Constant yelling at kids makes them feel that you are never supportive to them and so they put a deaf ear to what you say. They are less likely to follow your advices. Moreover children like to follow their parents and when you yell at them you unknowingly imbibe a feeling in them that yelling is the way how you handle your frustration and yelling is the way how adults resolve conflicts. Remember that yelling teaches your kids to yell back. So when you are modelling this behaviour to your kids, do not expect them to behave in the best ways.

4. By Yelling You Miss Those Special Moments in Your Life

Often your kids come to you sharing their thoughts and you not being in a mood to hear them just start yelling at them to be back to their own work or you compel them to be back to their own rooms. Now this is very unfortunate because you are simply missing those moments in your life that could have been your most treasured memories. You are also spoiling the bond between you and your child. Your children will find it uncomfortable to share their thoughts with you the next time.

5. Find Problems in Yourself and Not in Your Kids

Before yelling at your kids try to find the exact issue that is bothering you and your child. It is not always the child’s fault; sometimes the issues lie with you. If this is the case try to admit your faults.

So instead of yelling at kids, which has so many negative consequences both for you and your child, try to make the parent child bond stronger by understanding your kids.

What are the negative effects of yelling at children? How to avoid yelling at children? How can parents and children benefit if parents stop yelling at children? Discuss here.
