Weight Gain and Baby's Development in Seventh Month

At the seventh month of pregnancy, your baby will be completely developed. Find out more about the baby’s development and changes taking place in mother’s weight at this stage.

The development of your baby is quite rapid and fairly complete at this stage of your pregnancy. As you go for your regular checkups, you will find that the contour of the body of the foetus is quite well-defined at this stage. This can be felt well when you try to feel the baby in your womb by placing your hand on it. The length of the baby is approximately 37 cm now and weighs around 1 kg. Given below are the most important and interesting aspects of the baby’s development.

Developments in Baby

Following are the developments which take place in a baby during the seventh month of pregnancy.

The Development of the Brain - By now the foetus will react inside your womb in a similar manner that a mature baby would outside. You must have noticed hind reactions to light and sound and now you will find him react to pain as well.

The Development of Skin - The fatty tissue under the skin is developing even better and the appearance of the skin is reddish and pussy.

The Development of Taste Buds - The taste buds have begun to develop on the tongue of the baby and it will get better after delivery. As he keeps swallowing in some of the amniotic fluid, he will get to understand the subtle differences of the various types of tastes.

The Development of Lungus - The lungs are still at the early developmental stage and it will take a while for them to mature and function independently. The major development here, that is of the surfactant, the substance that is responsible for the collapse of the alveoli during the breathing is yet to be formed. That is the reason why the babies born at this stage, or premature are kept under artificial ventilation.

Health Issues Experienced by Mother

Weight gain will continue as the baby keeps growing and likewise, there will be some discomfort as the baby will start pushing against the walls of the uterus and there will be hot flashes. To ease the discomfort it is advisable to maintain correct postures and wear loose cotton or linen clothes.

Heartburn, indigestions and spasms are other common symptoms. As the skin in the abdominal area stretches further, there will be an appearance of prolonged reddish spots. The veins running on your breasts will become more vivid. A thick layer of fatty tissue will form under the skin around your belly, thighs and leg region. This formation of fatty tissues can be controlled by practicing yoga, of course after seeking the advice of the doctor and regular yoga will also help you to get rid of those tissues post delivery.

You will find yourself gaining over 4 kg in the last three months of your pregnancy. During the seventh month, the visit to the doctor is usually once every fortnight and make sure that you are following all suggestions and precautions. If there are any complications or changes noticed, ensure that you report them to your doctor. By now, you can also listen to the heartbeat of the baby using a phonendoscope. At this stage you need to decide on your maternity leave applications if you are a working woman.

Make sure that while you are working, your legs are laced high on a horizontal position. This will reduce the swelling of the legs and ankles and bring in comfort. There should be adequate rest and no exertion. Consult your doctor and mention of by when you are expecting to be back after childbirth. Make sure that you take care of leading a healthy lifestyle.
