Do you constantly plan to exercise regularly, but somehow never get down to it? Here are some tips to help you get motivated.
Treadmill
Keep a treadmill at home. True, many people invest in treadmills and
before long they get delegated to the status of pieces of furniture.
However, this doesn't always have to happen. To increase your chances
of working out at home, keep your treadmill or exer-cycle in front of the television at home. You're more likely to work out if your exercise equipment is placed close to entertainment, than if it is placed by itself in some desolate corner of your home.
Gym membership
Get membership of a gym close to home or to your place of work. The more you need to commute to reach the gym, the more likely you are to skip a session every now and again. And the last thing you need after a hard day's work is battling traffic to exercise.
On the other hand, if there is a run of the mill gym close to your
home, and something truly exceptional and within your budget a little
further, consider opting for the second one. Your workout at a
luxurious gym will naturally be a better experience, and this in itself
will serve as a motivator.
Clothes
Don't rush out and buy clothes in a larger size every time you
gain a little weight. Stick to your old size and work on fitting into
them again. In fact, buy something really spectacular in a slightly
smaller size, and work on losing enough weight so you fit into it
perfectly. Similarly, although you may be tempted to buy clothes that
will conceal your excess flesh, opt for some clothes that will show off
our bulges. This will force you to come back to reality and see for
yourself that you really do have excess fat sitting around in your body
that you need to get rid of.
Sport
Do all you can to make your workout experience as enjoyable as
possible. This in itself is a challenge, but with a little thought and
effort, you can do it. You may be more motivated toexercise
if you took up a sport. Learning a sport is an enjoyable pursuit in
itself, and once you are fairly good at a particular sport, you will
enjoy playing it all the more. In addition, you are more likely toexercise
regularly if you play a sport that you love, rather than if you keep
pushing yourself to go for a jog around the block - especially if you
detest jogging.
There are various forms of exercise, and many of us make the mistake of opting for a form of exercise
that we really do not like. Any wonder then that we need to push
ourselves day after day? Pretty soon our motivation will die out. Don't
let this happen. Opt for a form ofexercise that you will enjoy. If you like working out at a gym, if you enjoy the atmosphere of loud music, slick equipment and everyone working out
together, go for it. On the other hand, you may find lifting weights
dreary but enjoy playing tennis or squash. Or, you may find swimming
incredibly relaxing. Whatever your preference, try to identify it and
base your workout on what you enjoy. You will find that it will be
easier for you to be regular.
