Gym Etiquette

Don't take your children to the gym

When a person goes to a gym, he just wants to complete his workout to the best of his ability. Jogging on a treadmill for half an hour is not easy, and it requires concentration and focus. People who are gym regulars are motivated and have some goals in mind like losing weight or maintaining a certain fitness level. The presence of children running around is distracting, and almost makes a mockery of the seriousness of working out. When you are gasping for breath on a treadmill, the last thing you want to see is children giggling in a corner. In addition, when children enter the changing room of adults it can be a bit annoying, especially if the adults are in semi-nude state and the children are gawking. So, keep your children away from the gym.
Tie up your long hair or wear a headband to keep it away from your face. Don't workout with your hair flying all around you. Pushing hair back constantly from your sweaty face is distracting for you, and for others, who cannot help but wonder why you areworking out with your hair left loose. Tie it up in a neat ponytail, unless you have joined the gym for the sole purpose of attracting people of the opposite sex.
Don't overdo makeup. Not only does it look like you are trying too hard, but foundation on your skin will clog pores, preventing sweat from escaping easily and causing skin eruptions.
Always wash your face immediately after a workout, or your complexion will revolt!
Turn your cell phone on silent when working out. If you want to take an important call, go outside and speak on your cell phone. It is, however, best to just leave your cell phone behind and concentrate on your workout - and, let others concentrate on theirs. Not everyone wants to know your plans for the evening, and not talking on the phone for an hour will not kill you.
Don't wear clothing that is very revealing. However, tight clothing is comfortable when working out, especially if you jog on the treadmill, because excessive clothing weighs you down and comes in the way. Of course, if you are not serious about your work out, then don't wear biker shorts and a sports bra. Save them for when you are completely fit. However, it is preferable to wear tight clothing than to wear clothing which is too loose. If you show your cleavage every time you bend down, or if your shirt keeps sliding down your shoulders whileworking out , it comes in the way of your workout, and is distracting for others. Tight clothing is good, because it doesn't tend to rise up when you raise your legs or bend over.
Be friendly towards other gym goers, exchange exercise tips and ask around if you don't know how to use a particular machine. Exercise is painful as it is, so being a little social and trying to have fun whileworking out is a good idea.
