Remedial Help for Dyslexics

Dyslexia is a simple learning disability which can be treated by following right remedial measures. Dyslexic children can be intelligent but their perception of different things is different from normal kids. Read on to find which remedial measures should parents take in order to help their children cope with dyslexia with an ease.

First of all it is important to understand that lot of improvement can be brought about in dyslexic children with right method of teaching. Dyslexia is a disorder in the brain, the manner in which the brain functions or an abnormal brain development. More precisely, the left part of the brain gets affected by it, as such the functions like reading, and writing, etc, gets affected. The right brain is more involved with holistic procedures. Therefore, dyslexic children are smart too, they do understand things, but their manner of apprehension varies.

Therapies for Dyslexia Treatment

  1. Behavioral counseling.
  1. Behavioral modification through training.
  1. Educational counseling.
  1. Suggested retraining of the brain that needs to be repeatedly practiced.
  1. Patient tutoring

While discussing about remedial measures, it is also important to understand that each kid has his own set of problems and the same measure may not work for all. The situation is very relative. Therefore, the remedial measures are very specific.

Remedial Measures Should be Taken at an Earliest

When the kid is still in his learning and developmental stage, it is easier to retrain him and help him get adjusted to certain techniques. This gives the child a lot of time to get accustomed to it and learn in a better fashion. It has been observed in many cases that treatment of dyslexia is challenging if the kid is not treated early. In this context it is thereby important that the parents and teachers are aware of the varied symptoms and observe and note every action of their kid so that, if there is even an inkling of an abnormality.

Remedial Measures for Dyslexia

Here are some remedial measures which parents and teachers of dyslexic child can follow to help child cope with dyslexia.

Do not Overlook the Symptoms of Dyslexia

The very first point should be to ensure that you are adequately informed about the disorder. It is very important that you know the symptoms and are also aware of the possible methods that are used to treat them. After all, the treatment or therapy requires a long period of time.

Parents and Teachers Should Get Involved

The parents or the teachers must always get involved in whatever they are engaged in. this also does not mean that they must never be allowed to be with themselves. They should have a personal time as well, but make sure that are not isolated. It is also important that the parents and teachers are in constant touch so that the kid’s progress is tracked and information is exchanged.

Teachers should understand that dyslexic children take a while to understand so, the test should be untimed. This can do wonders to their understanding and writing skills.

Encourage the Skills of Child

Make it a point to promote positive feedback. Every child has a positive side, a talent or ability. They should be continually praised on their positives, so as to enhance their self esteem.

Possess Patience

In all your attempts, it is important that you note that dyslexia is not an incurable problem. All it requires is good understanding of the problem from the child’s point of view and a great deal of patience. You must be extremely and always eager to cooperate and help the child whenever he needs it.

Take Medical Help Whenever Necessary

Dyslexic children are often found to suffer from headaches and nausea that can be triggered off due to a variety of factors like over exhaustion, feeling down, depressed or irritated. These symptoms need to be medically treated.

Do Not Force the Child

Amongst the remedial measures, it is important that you do not force the child to read aloud. Oral testing must be conducted but allow the kid to feel ready and comfortable.

In relation to teaching in school, it is also important that the child is graded in terms of content, that is, the quality of content that he has put in rather than the handwriting and spelling errors.
