Stress and anxiety are two aspects of exam fever. In most of the cases it is found to be fueled by self-doubt. They keep worrying about their lack of performance in their exam papers even if they are well prepared, they happen to be stressed out.

Besides, students who ignore their lessons till the last moment get naturally stressed out when the dates of the examinations draw near. So exam stress is more or less a part of every student’s life, though the causative factors may vary. But stress is a serious impediment to good performance as it not only blocks the thinking faculties of the student but also adversely affects their health. With the help of a few simple tips, exam stress can be countered with considerable ease:

All Distractions Need to be Avoided

Distractions come across in all forms and during all times. One needs to be judgmental and intelligent enough to identify, locate and avoid them at all costs. At the given moment there should be nothing that should stand in the way of your child’s preparations and doing well in papers. Once your child is able to maintain focus, his attention will automatically be prevented from getting diverted. This requires some basic sense in prioritisation and it is easily manageable.

Encourage Positive Thinking in Your Child

A positive mind that thinks positive is a big asset even when things are not going your way. It has the potential to dramatically transform a person who is low in confidence who emerges as lively and spirited with self-belief. It can reduce stress even in the most challenging of situations. A positive approach will help your child to think that exams are just another way whereby they can prove that they have learnt their lessons well. The exam phobia will vanish and your child will fare well as they would be better prepared and have a calmer mind.

Hard Work Always Pays

As they say there is no short cut to success. Your child wants to attain good grades in exams; your child needs to work hard for it. He or she needs to be attentive in class, follow his or her regular lessons and complete his or her assignments in time. He or she will have to spend time in reading through the chapters and clearing up of doubts from his or her teachers. Your child has to practice exercises several times so that they are sure that they are not missing out on any point. Once your child is convinced that he or she is well-prepared, he or she will naturally develop an amazing self confidence that is a simple antidote to exam stress.

Let Your Child Eat Healthy and Eat Well

It is important for children to follow a balanced diet during examinations. In order to keep the mind alert, once needs to ensure that the body’s normal metabolism is taken good care of; the digestive system should not be taxed. Let your child have his or her regular meals in time, eat light, avoid spicy and junk food. Encourage your child to take in lots of fluids so that his or her body does not get dehydrated and include fresh fruits in his or her mid day and between meal snacks. This will keep your child’s system in order, his or her body will be relaxed and he will be braced for the examination hall in a healthy and calm mind.

Let Your Child Take Ample of Rest

Your child spends the entire year in preparing his lessons. He or she had time to revise his or her lessons and clear doubts from your teachers. Now your child is well prepared. Therefore, there is no point in letting your child lose sleep over late night studies. Once your child is confident that he or she prepared there is no point in following a late night study routine just because his peers are doing it. If your child rests well he or she will be in a better position to have fresh and alert mind the following day. A good night’s sleep is a great stress buster.

If all the above tips are followed, your child can cope with exam stress easily and score good marks in exam. Above all, parents support, love and care are very essential to help child deal with exam stress easily.
