Activities to be Avoided during Pregnancy

Performing certain high impact activities can prove harmful during pregnancy. Here is a list of activities that pregnant women must avoid.

What activities are safe to be practiced during pregnancy? When this question is asked to anybody, plenty of advices will come from family and friends immediately. A pregnant woman may come across a lot of suggestions and remedies due to which she may get confused. But, it is always better to get the confusions cleared by talking to a doctor.
In general, there are certain activities a pregnant lady should avoid during pregnancy which are as follows.

1. High Impact Exercises

The first trimester of pregnancy is a very crucial period, so it advisable to avoid any kind of high impact exercises during that time. Afterwards, a woman can do light or low impact exercises like yoga, aerobics, walking etc, which are recommended by her doctor. If women want to be active then gentle exercises for 30 minutes can prove very beneficial. It will help in reducing constipation, back ache, gestational diabetes, avoid mood-swings, boost energy, promote muscle strength and help in sleeping better.
Practising some good amount of exercises during the last trimester without putting pressure on the pregnancy bump can help a pregnant woman in coping up with natural labour pain. It will also help to avoid putting on much weight during that period and getting back in normal shape after the birth of child.

2. Adventurous Activities

Activities like river rafting, snowboarding, surfing or horse riding should be avoided. All these can put pressure on the pregnancy bump as well as the back and can prove harmful. High altitude activities like sky diving, mountaineering, rock climbing etc, must be avoided.

3. Lifting Heavy Weight

Lifting heavy weights should be avoided. It can put more pressure on the placenta and back. In very rare cases lifting heavy weight during pregnancy can also cause miscarriage. So, to be on a safer side, lifting heavy weight must be avoided.

4. Wearing High Heels

Wearing high heels during pregnancy can cause more pressure on the back causing ache. Using flat sandals after the first trimester is preferable. Also, there is a risk of falling due to wearing high heels, so wearing high heels should usually be avoided during pregnancy.

5. Visiting Amusement Parks

Taking rides like dashing cars, roller coasters in the amusement parks should be avoided. Such activities can prove risky during pregnancy.

6. Sports

A lot of energy is required to carry out sports activities. So, pregnant women must avoid participating in sports. Taking part in sport activities may lead to increase in the body temperature which may prove risky during pregnancy.

7. Overheating Activities

The baby in the womb can get harmed if the body temperature is raised above 102 degrees. The outer body can be brought to the normal temperature somehow but for foetus inside nothing can be done. Exposure to high temperature in the first trimester is linked to the increased risk of birth defects in the child.
Hot baths should be avoided. Steams baths must also be avoided if the weather is too hot. Exercises that raise body temperature must be avoided. After the first trimester, practising exercises that cause more pressure on the major blood vessels of uterus making woman feel uneasy should not be practiced.
A pregnant woman must always think before she performs any of these activities during because one thing should be understood that a baby is more important than anything.
