Healthcare during Last Trimester of Pregnancy

healthcare during pregnancy

Last trimester of pregnancy is as crucial as the first and the second trimester. Therefore, it is necessary to take right care during this trimester as well. Here are some things that you must never forget while taking care of yourself during the last trimester of your pregnancy.

Your baby may gain around one pound in the last week of your pregnancy, making it difficult for you to carry on with your fitness regime. It is normal to feel more tired and it will get difficult for you to move around with the huge belly.

If you are thinking of exercises now, to be honest, it is going to be tough. You need to look for more adjustments now, so that you do not exert too much pressure on yourself or the little one inside you. It is time you modify your workouts now.

Prenatal Visits

Apart from change in your exercise schedule, you shall also be visiting your doctor more often now. Let her know about the latest developments you are going through and get answers to all your concerns. You may be asked to carry your urine sample and get your blood pressure checked during the visits. In course of your physical examination, you shall be able to hear the heart beat of your child and see her movements in the ultrasounds scan.

Position of Your Baby

Your doctor shall check for the position of your baby now. She shall look for the head that feels hard. Opposite to her head shall be her buttocks that feel squishy and huge. Your doctor shall also look for the spine. The feet and hands of your little one shall be on the opposite side of her spine.
Delivery gets complicated in case of breech position, where the buttock appears in the beginning. You shall be admitted to the hospital as early as possible if your baby is in the breech position and in case you break your water.

Weighing your Baby

Your doctor shall check for the weight of your baby. In cases like obesity, too much of fluid or fibroids, it becomes difficult to get the exact weight. Even though ultrasounds are used to weigh babies in the womb, they may not be as accurate as the clinical findings.
In case your baby weighs more than normal, you may be suggested to opt for a caesarean section. Again, if the size of the baby is seen to be small, your doctor shall suggest you to go for an ultrasound. Your doctor may suggest inducing your labour to speed up the process of delivery. In some cases, your doctor may completely rely on the natural progresses you make and wait for your labour to start.

Assessing your Medical Condition

Diabetes is a common problem in pregnancy. This can increase size of the baby and a 32 week baby may appear as big as a full term baby. Ultrasound scans in this case helps determining the gestational age.
Even if a preterm baby assumes the size of a full term baby, he or she may suffer from birth complications.
Size of the baby can also be affected by hypertension. In case you have hypertension, there are chances of the baby remaining small for the gestational age. Flow of blood through the umbilical cord or in the brain of the baby can be determined with help of Doppler.

Foetal Anomaly

Checking for the foetal anomaly is extremely important in the third trimester. Even though you can gone for the anomaly test in the second trimester, another test at this stage shall help determine if things are stable. This shall also help determine your progress in delivery.

While, you may be waiting in anticipation to see your new born, you must not miss the appointments with your doctor and tests she suggests. You will certainly want nothing but the best for your little one!
