Newborn's Development in Week 11

Find about the developmental milestones that your baby may achieve by 11th week of her development.

Your baby is already two-and-a-half month old now and has stepped into week 11, and you can see her growing every week. At week 11, the overall growth of every baby can be noticed by their weight. Her limbs will get straighter, her head will get a little larger, and she will look longer. The nutrition she receives, her surrounding environment, the genetics that she has got from you and your partner – everything will be reflected on her external and internal body by now.

Physical Development

Different babies will have different development, weight and length. But usually at 11 weeks, babies weigh around 11-12 pounds and are usually 22-23 inches long. By this time, she will not hold her fists very tight. Her hands are usually open or loosely clenched, as she gradually loses the grasp reflex she is born with.

Developing With the New World

Till now, your baby was only fascinated by you, but from now on, even the surrounding world will try to surprise her. Your baby will start having her own ideas by just only 11 weeks – she will not be interested by your choice of game, but would like to explore on her own. At this time, infants tend to study the environment around them. Colorful objects can easily grab their attention. They will look around with curiosity at almost all types of sights and sounds around them.

Brain Development

The first 3 years of any baby’s life is crucial for brain development. By 11 weeks, your baby can also turn her head when you are talking – this shows that your baby recognizes and acknowledges you when you speak to her. Your baby will be able to keep her head up for longer time now when she is on tummy, and when you are pulling her in a sitting position, your baby can keep the head steady and in line with the rest of the body.

Motor Skill Development

You must continue with tummy play time as it will improve your baby’s motor skills and make your baby’s neck stronger. The movements of your baby while trying to catch the dangling toys on her baby cot may have become smoother now. Her motor skills are more coordinated and are more accurate in throwing her hands and legs. They also have begun to work out the basics of cause and effect, for example, they understand now that if they hit the dangling toy, it moves. During their tummy time, your baby is practicing to reach out to new toys by pushing up slightly using the arms. She will also try to activate the grasp reflex by grabbing the toy around the fist.

Language Development

Your baby is yet to talk – you have to wait for few months more. But your baby can still vocalize things mostly by babbling, making different types of sounds, and crying. You have to notice your kid now more as her personality emerges through her ability to laugh out loud and her voice. Your baby’s cry can be louder and more intense as she will tell her needs through crying – so it would be more demanding. The crying sound differs depending on what she needs.
Give your baby plenty of space to stretch out and use her muscles to encourage faster growth and development. Make eye contact with your baby while you talk to her regularly; allow her to respond to you with different sounds; help her discover how to move by moving her legs and clapping her hands. Lots of smiles, babbling, coos and even small laughs will continue now and your baby will grow in the blink of your eyes.

What kind of developments can be observed in 11 weeks old baby? How to aid development of 11 weeks old baby? Discuss here.
