It is good to be aware of the developments that take place in a baby during each week. Read on to find some general facts on the growth and development of a baby during the second week.Phew! Congratulations! You made it through the first week of your baby's arrival into the world. You have successfully guided your little bundle of joy through their first week. Finally you are back home and comfortably settled in your favourite place, your bedroom. It is time for you to step into the second week of your little one's life in this world. It is natural that your baby is going to take a good amount of time to fit into the workings of your regular lives. So get ready to learn what you should expect in the second week.
Increased Need to Breastfeed
Your baby is now in her second week. This means that her want and need for food is going to double. This is precisely the period during which your baby is going to start experiencing a growth spurt. Therefore, it is not surprising if your baby is almost always hungry. Ten to fifteen feeds is sufficient for your baby in a day. If she sleeps for long hours and do not wake up at the right intervals for her food, wake her up so that she can have the breastfeed and then put her back to sleep again. The right amount of food intake is necessary at this point.
Increased Nap Time
Along with increased food intake the other thing that increases is your
baby's nap time. The more your baby sleeps the better it will be for her. Babies usually take time to adapt to staying awake during the day. But sleeping helps them recuperate the stress of being in a new environment. So it is necessary. They cannot stay awake for more than two hours at a time. But make sure that you feed your baby at the right time no matter how much she sleeps. While some babies wake up when they need food, others just plan to sleep it off.
Need for Comfort
This is also the time when your little one is going to cry at every little thing. Babies hate change and therefore express their annoyance, discomfort and irritation by
crying. They can cry for hours at a stretch. While you should definitely sooth them so that they stop, sometimes you should just let them cry for a while so that they can vent it all out. So do not be scared if your baby just loves to bawl at any point of the day. It is natural for her and there is nothing wrong with it. She is growing just fine.
Development of the Eyesight
Babies are usually born nearsighted. Hence they cannot see anything beyond 25cms from their eyes. During this period babies start focusing on objects. You might see your baby trying to concentrate on your face intensely for long periods of time. This is their way of trying to communicate with you. Mommy, you are their favourite face at this time.
So arm yourself with as much knowledge as you can so that you do not freak out about every little thing that your little angel does! All babies are unique and they grow at their own pace. So, in case if you have any concern related to your baby’s growth and development, you must definitely talk to a
paediatrician.
