Newborn's Development in the Fifth Week

Your baby has now turned a month old. There are lot of developments that you will observe in your child as compared to last few weeks. Take a quick look at the developments that can be observed in a five weeks old baby.

What? Has it already been a month since your baby stepped foot into this world? It sure seemed difficult in the beginning but here you are with a month old baby in your arms! Your little angel is growing up fast and with growing up, comes new problems. So with the arrival of the fifth week, it is important for you to know what to expect at every point in this period. If your baby’s antics catch you off guard, you are most definitely going to skip into panic mode. So do your homework well, with the help of these following hints.

Oh! Your Baby is Getting Heavier

By the time babies step foot into their fifth week, they start gaining weight very frequently. Everyday your baby will be adding an ounce to her total weight. So if the baggy baby clothes fit your baby snugly now, no need to be alarmed. It is about time you go for your second trip to the baby clothes store. It might also happen that you need to make these shopping trips more often, because the clothes which seemed perfect for your baby today might just seem too tight for her just two days later.

Your Baby Needs More Feeds

A baby starting his or her fifth week will need to be fed more. Though the amount of food intake is not much at this stage, the number of times that you breastfeed your baby should range from at least 8 to 12 times within twenty four hour duration. If your baby sleeps during the period during which he or she needs to be fed, then wake them up and feed them. In this growing age, your baby should not miss any meal no matter what.

Your Baby Tracks Movements Much Better

By the fifth week, the vision of little babies improves to a great extent. Even though your baby cannot see extremely well just yet, she can track any kind of movement close by very easily. If you keep a toy or a mobile phone in front of her and move it from one side to another, you will see your baby following the movement quite intensely. Brightly coloured objects will arrest her attention for longer periods. Any movement in and around the room also successfully catches her attention.

Holding-Up the Head Becomes Easier

As babies grow older, their curiosity to look around and their desire to sit up increases. Therefore, it is natural that a baby in his or her fifth week will start holding up their head for as long as they can. Though, initially they will be mere seconds, as days go by they turn into minutes. This also proves that your baby is learning to control his or her body bit by bit.

Your Baby Will Respond to Smiles

Formerly, you might have been rewarded with small smiles here and there, but now your baby will start rewarding you with smiles when you smile at them. If you talk and laugh with them every day, you will see that your baby will start responding to your happy smiles with one of their own. Well, which mother does not like a happy baby?
So make sure that you know enough about what a baby usually does during their fifth week so that none of this seems alien to you. Just see to it that your baby is well rested and has the right amount of energy when awake. Take care of her eating and sleeping patterns and have a blissful and happy fifth week!

What kind of developments can be observed in a month old baby? How to aid development of a newborn baby? What kinds of growth milestones should be achieved by a baby in the second month of her development? Discuss here.
