Jonathan my 2 year old is an Indian Chinese and English and we speak english, cantonese and hindi. We were having a barbaque and he asked his "dada when are the prawns cooked" and my husband replied "yat crook jau sook" but to my 2 year old. his understanding of 'cook' n 'sook' means the food is ready to eat and he just looked at my husband and said' it mens the same dada'.

My friend's daugther Pooja is 2yrs + old and she's pretty smart for her age. When they visited us, I was few months pregnant, and so her mom warned her not to jump on me, and told her that i had a baby in my tummy. I used to go for regular walks, and so after couple of days, I asked Pooja if she would like to come with me for a walk, immediatly she said..."No! you go, you have a Baby in your tummy" I was really surprised how she could link two and two together.

When my sister was about 3 yrs old, there was a thief in the next house. I was narrating to her the whole incident. "yesterday around 12 in the night, next door aunty woke up to go to the restroom and happened to see two heads through the window. she yelled and they went off". on hearing this story, my sister immediately asked me "sister, do thieves have two heads?" I burst into laughter on her innocence.

One day my bhabhi had a son when his grandma told him that your mami had a son, he asked her how then she told that mami ke pet(belly) main se doctor ne baccha nikala hai. At evening when he came to meet mami & little child with her mummy & papa, he was amazing & asked that Mami aap itne bada baccha kha gayee thi ki doctor ko pet kaat kar nilana pada. We are Telugu people and he picked up a few hindi words like Chappal pahano, ghumne chale, thak gaye ho??, etc etc. from his hindi speaking aunty. Once he wanted to say remove the chappals to her and didn't know what to say. So, he finally told Chappal pahano nahin!!!
