10 Tips to Stop Spoiling Your Child
Sometimes parents forget everything when it comes to pampering children. They also forget that they are spoiling their children by over pampering them. Do you think that you are raising a spoiled child? Find top 10 tips to stop spoiling your child right here.

It is very obvious that you want your kids to be happy always, but that certainly does not mean you want to spoil them. Spoiling your kids can wreak havoc down the road when they grow up into adults. It is important to say “no” sometimes to your kid if you want him or her to grow up as a reasonable, well-mannered child. Here are few tips to stop spoiling your child.

1. Do Not Give Up to Their Nagging

If your kids nag or scream to get a candy bar in a store, and you buy it to calm them down – then this quick fix can be detrimental in future as your kids may get a message that they can get anything by misbehaving or screaming. You must ignore such attitude and be firm, divert their attention and teach them patience and good behaviour.

2. Do Not Treat Your Kids Unnecessarily

Giving allowances to kids without any specific reason can spoil them. Teach them to earn allowances. If they want something extra that they do not really need, then give them a list of chores to do to earn what they want.

3. Teach Your Kids to Follow Rules

When you have designed your rules, you must let your kids know why it is important to follow the rules. Make sure to communicate the punishment clearly once your kids break rules. Be firm and stick to the rules.

4. Teach Your Kids the Difference Between Wants and Needs

Every parent wants to provide everything to their children at ease, but it is very important to make your children understand the difference between things they want and things they need. This helps them not to be a spoiled brat when they grow up.

5. Teach Them the Value of Money

When your kids easily get what they want without any effort behind it, they overlook the value of money. It is you who should teach them that money do not grow on trees and it needs hard work and dedication to earn it.

6. Do Not Let Your Kids Go Goal-Less

Teach your kids how to set goals in their lives and achieve them. Often kids who are spoilt do not relate hard work with material goods. It is essential for your kids to know how to work hard and earn rewards. Encourage them to set life-realistic goals and go for them.

7. Give Real-Life Scenarios

Take your kids to do grocery shopping or buying any home-need. Make them aware of the prices of the things you buy. Be it a board game or paying electricity bill or paying for food or gas bill, keep your kids around to let them know what life costs.

8. Teach Them to Help Others

Many kids become wealthy and thus spoilt. Teach your kids what being wealthy means. It can have positive impact on community if it is used wisely. Teach them to help others and teach them how to use spend money correctly.

9. Teach Them Where to Spend Money

Never give your kids cold cash without advising them how to spend it. Help them show direction of how to distribute money once they have it, otherwise there are high chances of them to become spoilt.

10. Inculcate Right Values and Manners

Every parent loves his or her children unconditionally, that does not mean that you should do what they want or let them do whatever they want. Teach your kids to do things which are morally correct. Inculcate good values like honesty, respecting elder, helping others etc. and good manners like talking softly, saying “please”, “sorry”, “thank you” etc. in your kids right from early childhood. Moreover, they should learn to value things that parents provide them and value people around them.
Never overlook your kid’s age while teaching them money lessons or putting rules on them. Be flexible when your kids grow up. Also, remember that your kids are watching you – so follow what you teach.
