The Truth behind Early Puberty in Girls

Early puberty is very stressful for children, especially girls. Have a quick look the truth behind early puberty in girls and what parents can do to prevent it.

Girls getting precocious puberty is not unusual in the recent times. Most girls get their puberty fairly early than they used to even ten twenty years ago. Most girls start developing signs of puberty when they are 9 or 10 as compared to earlier 13-14 years.

Several mothers are expressing concern because of their daughters getting early puberty. It can be quite alarming for a mother if she finds her daughter getting puberty earlier than normal. Well, it is not unusual anymore so you should, as a mother be prepared as well as prepare your daughter psychologically as well as physically for the changes. Here we are going to decode for you some of the reasons for early puberty in girls.

1. Medical Problem

Now, the exact causes of precocious puberty have not been discovered very well by doctors but many cite medical conditions as a probable cause. Some girls may be having cases of dormant tumour condition in them or might be suffering from some cause of childhood surgery. Brain injury if suffered from at an early age, can often lead to early puberty due to release of hormone. Even brain inflammation has been stated as a cause of early puberty.

2. Genetics

Your daughters early puberty can be very well be due to genetics. It basically means that she has inherited this trait from someone in the family through her genes. If you have had an early puberty, then your daughter having an early puberty is normal and you should prepare her for it. She can get it from her father or from some relative in the family as well. This kind is quite common.

3. Obesity

This is a factor that works most of the time. Girls who are obese tend to get their puberty earlier than the girls who are skinny. Their obesity might make their bodies to release hormones earlier than normal. Girls with obesity are more developed than others and they get premature breasts because of that.

Mothers often mistake that their daughter’s obesity as a sign of puberty. Their developed body structure makes their brain release the puberty hormones earlier than the age that it is released in skinny girls. This makes them have puberty earlier. It is no cause for concern, it is normal; however mothers are requested to try to get their daughters to reduce the fat because it might be harmful for them later.

4. Environmental Factors

It has been observed that often environmental factors tend to affect a girls puberty resulting in early puberty in them. It might be due to the things they are exposed to, change in surrounding, family, etc.

5. Race

It has been observed that the girls of some nations get their puberty earlier than others. It is simply a matter of race and inherent traits that lead to these. So your daughter getting early puberty might be because of the race you belong to.

As you can see, there is really not much reason to panic if your daughter has precocious puberty. You should focus your attention towards preparing her for it, because it is a whole new thing for her. Further, it is advisable that you do consult a gynaecologist.
