Frequently Asked Questions

Q: I have one 7-year-old daughter and am expecting my second child. I think I have conceived last week. I do not want this child – are there any medicines by which I can abort my child, without undergoing surgery or going to a hospital?
Kripa (U.A.E)

A: Since you wish to abort your second child, you have to visit your gynaecologist and ask for her advice. Never take a step like this unless you are under the proper supervision of a doctor.

Q: What’s the procedure for a pregnancy test? If it is affirmative, what is the abortion procedure? We are not sure if we want a child now.
Hiren (India)

A: You can confirm the pregnancy by a blood test called beta hcg or with a Sonography. If the pregnancy is less than 49 days, it can be terminated by tablets and if it is more than 49 days but less than 70 days, it will have to be terminated by surgical methods.

Q: My wife underwent a DC yesterday. We have a 2 year old child. What are the precautions we have to take now? What is the food she has to eat?
Altaf (Singapore)

A: Do you mean she had an abortion? If so, you need to use contraceptives to avoid a second pregnancy until you plan to have another child. She can eat all types of food – there is no dietary restriction.
