Frequently Asked Questions
Q: I live in NZ &the weather is very cold most of the time. I have dandruff
for the last few years. Every 3 days I wash my hair.I also have itching
problem, though i dont have lice at all.My hair are very dry as well.
Please help me Vini (Mumbai,
)
|
A: Your hair itches becuase of dandruff. Use an anti-dandruff shampoo once a week. Apply raw egg to your hair once a week. Whip it with oil, apply to hair, leave on for half and hour, and wash off with cool water. Make sure the water is not very hot or the egg will start to cook in your hair! As your hair is dry, wash it just once a week, or once in 5-6 days. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: i have curly hair. my hair is dry. i shampoo twice a week and apply mehndi once a month. still my hair looks dull and dry please help me. heena (Mumbai,
)
|
A: Shampoo once a week, since curly hair tends to be dry and dull. Wash your hair every two days with just water. This will make your hair look glossier and your curls will look more defined. Comb your hair with a wide toothed comb when it is wet, and don't comb it when it is dry. Avoid mehendi, it dries hair out further. Apply egg to your hair once a week before your shampoo, and shampoo with cool water or the egg will start cooking in your hair! Vidula P Chopra |

{yoga/exercises}.i' a male,15. shijo (Mumbai,
)
|
A: Beat the whole egg and apply it to your hair and scalp. It will stink, but is a very good conditioner and will make your hair shine. Onion juice has not been proven to help hair grow. Certain exercises are believed to help you grow tall if you do them when you are still in the growing stage. You should sign up for yoga classes. For scars, apply a mixture of lemon and c123ucumber juice daily to your face. |

Q: Does dandruff cause split ends? How can I overcome this? i tried hair trimming but still see split ends... karthika (Mumbai,
)
|
A: Dandruff does not cause split ends. Apply conditioner to the ends of your hair after every wash, and wash off five minutes later. Trim ends regularly and make sure ends are always well moisturised. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: Hi Vidula, I have oily scalp and dry frizzy hair. I have started using redken all soft shampoo and pantene sleek and smooth. I oil my hair 2 times a week with dabur vatika hair oil and apply egg as a conditioner mixed with curd. Also I do not use any other conditioners. I want to know what I should do to prevent greying of hair and to prevent frizziness, though the friziness is not too much now, but still it does exist. Please advise, I am not keen on coloring as my hair is already fine and I don't want to loose more. Abla (New Delhi, India)
|
A: You don't need to oil your hair twice a week. Once a
week is enough. For natural frizz control, just after
washing hair you could try applying 2 drops of oil.
Alternatively, try Frizz Ease by John Frieda, or the
St. Ives frizz control product. Also, if your hair is
curly, you need wash your hair just once a week. Read
this article for tips on handling frizzy hair. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: Hi, I am using Livon silky potion since last year. It contains silicon. And I have read that silicon is harmful for hair. Please suggest me should I stop using this. I use it because my hair is very dry and slight curly. Kanchan (Mumbai, India)
|
A: Excessive use of products that contain silicon can
cause hair to dry out. This can be countered by
conditioning hair regularly, or by oiling it. In any
case, applying a little Livon a couple of times a week
will not harm hair at all. If you apply it more often,
then take care to condition hair. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: I have straight hair but they are dry can I use egg for shine? Or it will make my hair more dry? Mansi (Mumbia, India)
|
A: No, egg is an excellent conditioner and will really
make your hair shine. You could also mix the egg with
curd. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: Hi I wrote to u before but I have more query, my hair is up to my
shoulders, its dry, curly and wavy... I put my hair in ponytails everyday to
hid my hair mostly its not brushed because its to tangles but sometimes put it
in braids...... I want thats shiney and not so frizzy. I tred everything it
doesnt work.. I take showers maybe 12x a month or less and I need a pesific
shampoo and condtionair to help my hair not so dry and frizzy help meeee! Rahel (Mumbai, India)
|
A: Hi Rahel, I just replied to your earlier mail, anyway, let me include
a shampoo and conditioner for you. Try Pantene's Smooth and Silky
shampoo and conditioner. If it's not available in regular stores, you
could try a store that sells imported goods. Also, there is a new
treatment out called X-tenso. It is a smoothening treatment. Find out
if any parlour close to your place does this treatment - it should
help. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: Hi im rahel, I have dry puffy long hair i need a solution? what kind of shampoo and conditioner do i need? plz help me my hair is so puffy i look like my poodle? Rahel (Mumbia, India)
|
A: Read this article that we have on frizzy hair, I'm sure it will help you.
Tame Frizzy Hair
Also, try blowdrying your hair straight after every wash. Blowdry in
sections, or it's not going to work. See the article for instructions
or get your hair blowdried from the parlour once to see how they
section it, and then blowdry your hair accordingly. You could also try
applying gel to your hair after a wash, when your hair is still damp,
and tying up your hair in a ponytail or bun. When you open it up, your
hair will be less 'puffy'. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: Does henna dry hair? Could you tell me what I should mix with it for the rich auburn color and lusture. I have shoulder length hair,a bit on the frizzy side and is wavy in texture. thanks in advance Carol (Mumbia, NJ USA
)
|
A: Yes, henna does dry out hair gradually. If you still
want to apply it to your hair, put tea leaves in the
mehendi to further enrich the colour. You could also
put egg for some extra conditioning. Wash off with
cool water. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: I m very dissappointed with my hair, pls suggest me what to do with my hair, bcos my hair is very dull, dry, rough and curly. I am tired with my hair now. Sejal (Mumbai, India)
|
A: Curly hair tends to be drier than straight hair in any case. First of
all, don't shampoo your hair very often. Shampooing it once a week, or
once in five days, is sufficient. You could however rinse your hair
and apply conditioner everyday or every alternate day. Curly hair
needs a lot of conditioning.
Apply egg to your hair once a week before shampooing. Your hair will
shine.
Invest in a defrizz serum. Apply this to towel dried hair and then
don't touch your hair at all, until it is completely dry. Your curls
will look far better and prettier.

Q: Hi, i have very dry and dull hairs. Thats why they are fallin now
these days very fast, i don't know what to do. Plz tell me how to stop them

Q: I have long and very frizzy hair.I can't put it up becuase the
frizziness gets out of control.I have tried de-friz syrums and am not allowed to cut my hair.Is there anything that can stop it.Some sort of oil or something?Hair spray and mousse makes it
worse!Please help Madhuvi (Banglore, India)
|
A: De-frizz serums are possibly your best bet. Use a good
de-frizz serum like John Frieda's Frizz Ease, or St.
Ives de-frizz serum. Remember to wash your hair with
COLD water as hot water increases frizziness. Don't
apply mousse or sprays. When towel drying your hair,
don't scrub it with the towel, simply pat it down.
Now, here's what you need to do: Apply the serum (John
Freida's serum needs to be applied to soaking wet
hair, not towel dried), comb through with a WIDE
TOOTHED comb, and then DON'T TOUCH your hair at all
when it is drying. Don't touch it with your hands,
with a comb or with a towel or anything. The curls
will form on their own and your hair will not be
frizzy. Try this once, and if it does not work, the
next time you can apply a few drops of oil to damp
hair. Never brush frizzy hair and only use a
wide-toothed comb.
You could also try blowdrying hair straight. Remember
to always blow-dry in sections.
Do let me know if this worked. All the best! Vidula Chopra |

Q: What is the difference between dull and dry hair? I need to know
this for buying the right shampoo. I use Ultra Doux shampoo and conditioner. Aanad (Mumbai, India)
|
A: Dull hair is hair that does not shine. The two always
work together. Dry hair is usually dull. If your hair
is oily, get a shampoo for oily hair, not a shampoo
for dull hair. If you feel your hair could do with
more shine, apply egg to your hair and shampoo after
half an hour. Vidula Chopra |

Q: Hi, give me some advice for preventing grey hair. Suchita (Mumbai, India)
|
A: Don't grow old! Seriously though, there is not much
you can do to prevent grey hair, which is why hair
colour is such a booming business. Yoga does help
though, especially inverted asanas. Also, try rubbing
fingernails together for five minutes, twice a day.
Eat fish and coconut. Vidula Chopra |

|
A: Give your hair an oil massage once a week, including
steam, so your hair absorbs the oil well. After this,
apply egg to your hair. Egg conditions and soften
hair, and gives it a shine. Switch to a milder
shampoo, try Petalca. If your hair is still rough the
next day, soak your hair while showering, without
shampooing it. (This should be done in any case if you
have curly hair.) Your hair probably needs more
moisture. Try and wash your hair with as cold water as
you can manage, warm water dries out hair. Invest in a
Leave-In Conditioner (available abroad), which you
apply to wet hair and don't wash off. Vidula Chopra |

Q: hi!i saw your site it is wounder full so then i feel like to ask
you a confuse question plz reply me soon.i want to know that is the flex
shampoo and johnson's baby shampoo harmfull for hairs as we hurd in two
three year back thatthat johnson's baby shampoo dusnot clean the head skin
and baby's skin is brownes dust not clean from the head!and secondly i want
to ask which shampoo is mild!!!!and which shampoo is good for brown
hairs!!thanks Seema (Mumbai, India)
|
A: Johnson's Baby Shampoo is very mild, and it does clean
the hair and the scalp. It is a good shampoo and can
be used by adults as well, who would like a mild
shampoo. A good shampoo for brown hair depends on your
hair type, if it is oily, dry, normal, damaged,
chemically treated, dandruff-free etc. Mild herbal
shampoos usually work for most hair types. Vidula Chopra |

Q: I have a very oily scalp, is there any home remedy to prevent scalp oiliness? Its so oily that i need to wash my hair every alternate day. And another problem I have is my hair is too dry, due to which I'm afraid to do excessive shampooing also. I use moisturising shampoo for my dry hair followed by conditioner, but that only helps for a day. Next day again it needs a wash. Please help me. -Nikita. Nikita (Mumbai, India)
|
A: This is a common problem faced by many women. There is
nothing wrong with washing your hair every alternate
day. In fact, many women wash their hair everyday.
Conbtinue washing your hair every alternate day. Make
sure you use a mild shampoo, which is suitable for
daily use. Also, after shampooing, apply conditioner
to the ends of your hair - not to your scalp. Trim
your hair regularly, to prevent split ends. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: I'm 24 years too young to have grey hair but since 2 months ago I've found 6 grey hairs I haven't been under any kind of stress I haven't any other problem with my hair and it is not genetic because any of my relatives had grey hair under 40 .What can I do to prevent any more grey hair to appear? Mariana (Mumbai, USA)
|
A: It is fairy common for people to start greying when
they are this age. It often happens to those who have
a tendency to develop a cold. There is really nothing
you can do, other than take good care of your health
and diet. Inverted yoga poses like sarvangasan or
shivsasana (standing on your head), help delay greying
as they increase blood flow to the head. Stress does
cause premature greying, but it is of course not the
only cause. Eat a lot of coconut and fish. Vidula Chopra |
|
Q: Hi everytime I wash my hair,it becomes really dry and you can't even comb it. Its terrible I use head and shoulders dandruff control. Aarti (Mumbai, India)
|
A: Oil your hair at least once a week, before washing it. Leave the oil on for around an hour, and then shampoo off. After washing your hair, apply a conditioner. The conditioner should be applied to the ends of your hair, and not on the scalp. Apply conditioner to the ends of your hair, and comb through. Leave it on for 5 minutes and then wash off. Your hair will be silkier. |
|
Q: I used to have very long and healthy hair, now it is very short and damaged. I really need some tips of how to make it grow faster and healthy. Nitika (Mumbai, Bangalore
)
|
A: Do you have split ends? Trim your hair regularly to avoid split ends. Avoid blow-drying your hair or heat styling in any manner, as this increases dryness... So no heat rollers either! Apply oil once a week to your hair, and wash off after at least an hour. Apply egg and curd to your hair as well. Use a shampoo for dry hair, and condition after every wash. Cut your hair short, shoulder length, to increase body. |
|
Q: My hair is thin, straight and silky. I wash my hair daily with water, and shampoo it twice a week after properly oiling it, but it looks dry and lifeless. I commute for over a distance of 20-25 km. I cannot stop washing my hair daily since I am habituated to it since childhood. Juhi (Mumbai, India)
|
A: If you wet your hair without shampooing it, hair tends to fall limp and get sticky. It doesn't fall well. However, since you don't want to stop doing this, I'd suggest that you switch to a very mild shampoo, and shampoo your hair every alternate day. In fact, a lot of people shampoo their hair every single day because the pollution, weather, our lifestyles, commuting etc. makes our hair filthy. Oil your hair once a week, and leave the oil on for at least an hour before shampooing. Also, apply curd and egg to your hair once a week before shampooing. They are both excellent for hair. |
|
Q: I have hair as long as halfway down my back. It is silky and straight, but it has started looking dull. How can I give it more bounce and what hairstyles can you suggest for a change. I'm pretty tired of braids and ponytails. Shalini (Mumbai, USA)
|
A: Have you ever highlighted your hair? Straight hair looks beautiful with highlights. And if you look after your hair, oil it once a week, apply egg, curd regularly, the texture of your hair will stay silky smooth. Sometimes hair tends to look dull becuase of shampoo build up. Change your shampoo. Get a haircut. Layers add bounce to the hair. You could even get just one layer, at the bottom of your hair. As for hairstyles, we will soon be launching a hairstyle section, complete with pics and step-by-step instructions. Watch out for that! In the meantime, consider:A high ponytailA bun with and without partingA half ponytailA french braidThere is no end to the styles you can make with long hair. Keep experimenting, and try a different look everyday. |
|
Q: I have dull, lifeless hair that breaks very easily. I cannot leave it open. Though it is very light, it appears large and bulky. What should I do? Pooja (Mumbai, India)
|
A: Apply a mixture of oil and curd at least once a week, and wash off after around an hour. Your hair will not be dull and lifeless. You should apply a few drops of oil to your hair after every wash, when your hair is still wet. It will be less frizzy/bulky. One other way to combat frizzy hair is through heat treatment. Blowdry your hair straight after every wash, but then make sure you oil it regularly so it doesn't dry out. Alternatively, get a spiral perm. Curls are all the rage these days. |
