Teaching Children to Handle Bullying

Coping with bullying is one of the common childhood concerns. Read on to find tips for teaching your children to handle bullying.

Bullying is something that children of all ages have to undergo. In fact some children don’t even know that they are undergoing something that is called bullying. They may keep on taking the pressure of bullying without uttering a word. This habit may affect their mental health as well as their self-esteem and confidence. It can indirectly affect their academic performance and behaviour. They maystart becoming very irritable and angry. The key to helping children handling such issues is to do nothing but relax and adopt a positive and peaceful attitude towards life.

Ways to Teach Children to Handle Bullies

When you are teaching your children to handle bullies, you must treat it as a very petty issue and not a very big problem. Teach your children to treat it as a little prickle on the feet.

1. Teach Them to Be Kind

Kindness is a medicine for everything. Teach your children to treat everyone with kindness and empathy. Sometimes some individuals may try to be rude as they may feel that they have to be rude to make friends. They may not be bad.

2. Teach Them to Ignore It

Tell your children that they know themselves best. So, what others are talking about them should not affect them at all. Others don’t have to tell them who they are neither they have right to do so. So, tell your children, to ignore the petty things that people say about them.

3. Encourage Them to Talk to Friends or Adults

When they find that someone is trying to bully them they should immediately learn to divert their attention. The best way is to talk to friends or adults to make the bullies realise what they are doing is not really bothering them.

4. Let Them Create a Super-Shield

Bullies try to say certain things that aren’t really true. So, make sure to teach your children to create a strong shield for their own self. Tell them not to react for whatever they are saying or doing at all.

5. Tell Your Children to Ask Them to Stop

Tell your children to talk to the bullies patiently and stop what they are doing. Teach your children to talk to them without hurting their sentiments. It will give them a chance to change their behaviour.

7. Teach Them to Confide in You

Teach your children to confide in you so that if someone is troubling them, you will the first one to know about it. Teach them constructive ways to deal with such situations.

8. Help Children toStand-Up for Themselves

It is necessary to teach children to stand-up for themselves when they have not done anything wrong. Tell them to do choose a right path and do what they feel is right in their own interest without hurting anyone. Ask them to tell you what they have decided to do and teach them to do right things in life.

9. Encourage Them to Use Humour or Agree With Them

Humour can help to release stress and tension to greater extent thereby helping bullies to change defiant behaviour. If bullies are saying good things about them in a bad way, teach them to find humour in it or teach them to agree with them. This act will turn the situation around.

10. Ask Your Children to Walk Away

If your children are not able to solve the problem or if the problem is getting worse, teach your children to walk away. The problem will get solved from all ends when your child will not become their target anymore.

When your child is trapped in issues like bullying, you must tell you children to avoid holding grudges against anyone. You must teach your child to talk nicely to everyone. Being cool, calm, light and relaxed is the best way to stay away, avoid and deal with issues like bulling. Dealing with bullying is all about choosing to live a peaceful life.
