A healthy body is a prerequisite to pregnancy. Both man and woman must be healthy for a successful pregnancy. Fertility issues may crop up if any one of the partners is not healthy. Several male factors can be a reason for infertility so a man should have some knowledge about his body before planning a baby. Fertility problems are a major problem these days. Most of the times it has been found that until you get to know about someone having a fertility issue, you tend to take your own fertility for granted. But when you seek to build a family, it is advisable that you become aware of the overall condition of your body. So before getting concerned or frustrated about your fertility, you just need to take note of your health and undertake mediations if necessary in order to lead a great family life.

It is indeed great that nowadays, people are being to realize that the usual infertility issues are just caused by the woman’s inability to conceive. There can be a host of male factors too that can be the root cause to hinder a successful pregnancy. Here is a discussion on several conditions that adversely affects the sperm quality of the man and delays pregnancy.

Know about Varicocele

In about half of the time, 40% of the cases to be precise, the man faces fertility issues due to varicocele. A varicocele is basically a single dilated vein or a collection of veins that has the potential to render a significant impact on the condition or environment of the testicles. This can be a major fertility concern for the man as the temperature and the chemical balance gets disturbed. This situation can be easily cured by an urologist.

Get Information about Childhood Diseases

The childhood illness can often get back to haunt the fertility of the man and give rise to pregnancy difficulties. This is because certain diseases or events that have taken place in the life of the man can interfere with the sperm development in his later life. These are basically some very common some viral diseases like mumps. Mumps result in the swelling of one or both the salivary glands accompanied by fever and when it results in the swelling of the testicles as well, it indeed poses problem in the later years. This is found to happen in 15-25% of the cases. If both the testicles get affected, the result can be permanent sterility.

If you had a hernia surgery, it can affect your fertility adversely. This can happen if you have a surgery on your genitalia or bladder too. So you need to be aware and provide information to your physician when you are facing fertility issues while trying to start a family.

Know the Effect of Medications

The production can get affected due to several medicines that are commonly taken. Some of them are tagamet (cimetidine), nitrofurantoin, sulfasalizine and steroids. Some of them can be prescribed medicines but then when you are trying to get pregnant, you need to be aware that some of them might render an impact on your sperm quantity and quality. So proceed according to the doctor’s advice.

Stay Away from Hazardous Chemicals, Drugs, Tobacco

Pesticides and chemical fertilizers can affect fertility. While planning pregnancy, it is thus advisable to steer clear from heavy metals like lead, mercury and nickel. Avoid benzene, petrochemicals and perchloroethylene. Even radiation emanating from X-rays can hamper normalcy in sperm production. If you wish to have sperms all illicit drugs, tobacco, marijuana and alcohol should be avoided.

Learn to Relax, Sleep Well and Have a Healthy Diet

Vitamin E is known to be beneficial when you are planning pregnancy. Make sure that your body gets the adequate amount of rest and nutrition. Try to lead an active and stress free life and learn to relax. This will add on to render a positive effect when you are having intercourse.

Right Amount of Sex Helps

Intercourse should not happen too often or too less. It is observed to be very effective to maintain a healthy sperm count and supply if you have sex roughly after every 48 hours. You also need to understand ovulation and accordingly time your intercourse to get the optimum results.
