Pregnancy and Childbirth Checklists

Pregnancy checklists may differ from one woman to another. Preparing a pregnancy checklist will help an expecting mother to manage the hustle and bustle during labour and childbirth easily. Find common pregnancy checklists for getting pregnant and each trimester of pregnancy.

Pregnancy checklists start even before you get pregnant. So, if you are planning to go the family way or you are in your first three months of pregnancy, you need to know the important things to take into account. If you are planning to have your baby in hospital you need to have a checklist for the things you should take along with you at the time of labour.

Here are some checklists concerned with you and your pregnancy. This will keep you up to date and ready always. It is always a good idea to stay prepared so that you do your best and take care of the health of your baby and yourself as well.

Pre-Pregnancy Checklist

Here is a common checklist for getting pregnant.

  1. Stop using any birth control method immediately after you plan for the child.
  2. Opt for a healthy lifestyle. Pay attention to nutrition and take out time for exercise.
  3. Stay away from toxins and stop smoking or taking alcohol.
  4. Check out your health insurance policy and find out what prenatal coverage you have. If needed, update it.
  5. Look for a good gynecologist and consult at least once.
  6. Try to engage yourself in things you like to do and remain stress free as far as possible.

First Trimester Checklist

Have a quick look at the checklist for first trimester of your pregnancy.

  1. Get an appointment with your doctor and get advice on nutrition and lifestyle changes, if any.
  2. Check out websites and books to learn more about the development of your baby in first trimester.
  3. Stop taking in any kind of toxin, alcohol and stop smoking too.
  4. Take the vitamins and supplements advices by the doctor regularly.
  5. Join the baby care and safety classes.
  6. Plan out to complete your projects so that you can comfortably take out time during delivery.
  7. Start exercising and try to get rid of fatigue. Consult your doctor before you do anything.
  8. Avoid raw and undercooked meat, raw eggs and caffeine.

Second Trimester Checklist

If you are in your second trimester of pregnancy, you can refer the following checklist.

  1. Check out from your HR department about the maternity leave and benefits that you are going to get.
  2. Go for your next checkup.
  3. Shop for maternity clothes.
  4. Get a prenatal massage after consulting your doctor.
  5. Modify your exercise regime.
  6. Drink lots of water and eat healthy and nutritious food.
  7. Avoid medication.
  8. Take plenty of rest.
  9. Shop for baby care items.
  10. Look for names of your baby.

Third Trimester Checklist

Refer the following checklist if you are in the third trimester of your pregnancy.

  1. Notify your employer about your maternity leave plans.
  2. Plan and organise baby shower.
  3. Complete your baby’s nursery.
  4. Contact and fill the form of the hospital you are planning to go.
  5. Check your camera or video camera so that it is in good working condition.
  6. Pack your maternity bag.
  7. Relax and take rest so that you stay prepared for the big day.

Delivery Day Checklist

You need to ensure the following things on the day of your delivery.

  1. Drive safely to the hospital.
  2. Take your maternity bag.
  3. Have happy thoughts and stay calm.
  4. Inform your insurance company when you get admitted.

Post Partum Checklist

Have a quick glimpse of the postpartum checklist.

  1. Call, send sms or email to all about the arrival of your little one.
  2. Take lots of pictures of your baby.
  3. Take breastfeeding tips from the doctor.
  4. Make arrangements to take your newborn home.
  5. Visit the pediatrician every 6 weeks for your baby’s checkup.

So, now you have everything planned and organised. Make sure you go through the checklists few days before and during the period mentioned. Read books and articles and educate yourself so that you prepare well for the labour.
