The first trimester of pregnancy is extremely important and brings in lot of changes in the body. Yoga works great during this period provided you do the right asanas in the right way. The first trimester is a period when you will find lot of changes going on in your body, physically as well as emotionally. Different types of anxious thoughts will prop up in your mind and the morning sickness can also make you worry and get exhausted.

Benefits of Yoga in the First Trimester Pregnancy

If you practice yoga in the first trimester, you will stay calm and relaxed and realise the changes going on in your body. This will help you carry on even the uncomfortable changes very effectively. You can improve your mental health with the help of meditation as well. Breathing exercises and meditation also helps during labour time. Here are some of the benefits of yoga practice during first trimester pregnancy.

Yoga Asanas for First Trimester Pregnancy

Following are the yoga asanas which can be practiced during first trimester of pregnancy. However, these asanas should be practice only under right guidance of experienced yoga trainer.

  1. Ardha Titli Asana –

    It will help loosen up hip and knee joints and help in faster delivery.

  1. Purna Titli Asana –

    Removes fatigue in legs and relaxes inner thigh muscles.

  1. Sputa Udarakarshan Asana –

    Improves digestion and removes constipation, relaxes spine eliminating the stiffness felt there.

  1. Chakki Chalan Asana –

    Organs of pelvis and abdomen gets prepared for pregnancy, tones up nerves and is an excellent postnatal exercise too.

  1. Marjari Asana –

    Tones female reproductive system improves flexibility of neck, spine and shoulders and is a very good yoga asana for first and second trimester of pregnancy.

  1. Kashta Takshan Asana –

    Tones and loosens the pelvic muscles.

  1. Kati Chakrasana –

    Tones back, waist and hips and helps relieve physical and mental tension in the body.

  1. Uthanasana –

    Helps strengthen middle back muscles, uterus, thighs and ankles.

  1. Tadasana –

    Stretches and loosens spine and helps develop physical and mental balance.

  1. Kandhar Asana –

    Relieves backache and realigns spine, massages and stretches colon improving digestion, tones female reproductive organs and is beneficial for those women who have a tendency to miscarry.

The yoga exercises mentioned are good and beneficial during the first trimester of pregnancy. However, it should be done under expert guidance and only after consulting a medical professional or a gynecologist. Just keep in mind pregnancy does not mean that your activities or yoga shall get stopped or obstructed. There are certain precautions that should be taken and only the asanas that are helpful in pregnancy should be carried out throughout.
