Today, people are paying a lot of attention towards doing things that can help save our planet and our environment. Why not encourage kids to play eco-friendly Holi this year? Read on to learn how you can persuade kids and make them enjoy playing environmental friendly Holi as well. Holi is a festival celebrated to welcome the spring season. The colours that are used symbolize different shades of this season. Unfortunately the
festival of Holi has become harshly commercialised and has become one of the sources of degradation for the environment. In some areas and for some people this festival is no more a festival that spread love and friendship.
There was a time when the colours for Holi were prepared from flowers and other natural products. Some of the plants even had therapeutic effect and they did more good than harm to the one who applied and on whom it was applied. However with time and with commercialization of everything, demand for varieties of colours increased and became popular not only because they offered varieties, but also because they were less expensive.
Tips to Encourage Kids to Play Eco-Friendly Holi
Here are some tips which will help you to encourage your kids to play safe and eco-friendly Holi.
Make Your Kids Aware
Kids do not follow simple instructions nowadays. They need to be made clear the reason and consequences of whatever they do or are asked to do. So, if you want to convey the message of playing environmental friendly Holi, you should first of all make them aware of the harmful chemicals that are used in artificial colours. Once they listen to you, ask them whether after being aware of the effects of chemicals and their impact on health they are going to play with them or not.
Make the Holi Colours at Home
Although you can find natural colours easily available these days, you can also make them at home and involve kids so that they enjoy the activity as well. You can easily find the procedure for preparing different colours and since the ingredients used to make these colours have medicinal effect and they are made from the products directly produced by nature, there will be no harm to the skin or health. For example, you can use turmeric to make yellow colour, Neem leaves to make green colour, rose petals to make pink colour and so on.
Discourage Use of Plastic Bags and Balloons
Children especially naughty children make use of plastic bags and balloons and fill them with colours to throw on passer byes on Holi. This should be discouraged not just because there is lot of plastic bags used which is harmful for the environment, but also because it is only one sided enjoyment. Anyone who is hit gets hurt which is not a way to celebrate any festival. It is the moral responsibility of parents to teach their kids about the consequences of such activities.
Save Water
During the Holi festival lot of water gets wasted in a single day. Let children know that there is shortage of water on earth and we should save water not just because it is Holi, but also in our day to day life. Encourage them to play Holi without water. This will also save them from catching cold or any other common health problem.
Celebrate Holi with Poor Children
Take your kids to orphanage, old age home or any other place where people below poverty level live. When those children, senior people and all will feel happy, your kids will also feel contented.
It is a great relief that more and more people are becoming environmental conscious these days. We should help our kids become aware of the problems and what they can do to save the environment as well. You can start this drive right from celebrating Holi in a specific way this year.
