Getting Pregnant in Your 40

Getting pregnant in the 40’s is now not a big deal. With more and more couples focusing on their careers before settling down to have a family, getting pregnant in 40’s has become a norm rather than an exception. With advancement in medical technology getting pregnant in 40’s is no more difficult. There are solutions to the complications arising at this juncture. Certain basic points should be kept in mind if you are in your 40’s and planning to get pregnant. Read on to know how to get pregnant in 40’s.

At 40, people reach their prime in all most every aspect of their lives. They climb the career ladder and even in relationships, they tend to settle down. This is true for both men and women. As they tend to settle down in happy family life, women realise the need and desire of children if they have not given birth to a child yet.

After achieving money, authority and job satisfaction, they are not willing to let go of the other most satisfying feeling, the feeling of becoming a mother. Some years back, people used to frown with the idea that getting pregnant in the 40’s is next to impossible. But with the advancement in medical technology, getting pregnant in your fourth decade is not an unthinkable task.

Today there are a number of diagnostic options and technological modalities, that can be effectively combined together to make your desire of giving birth to a baby come true. They allow you to shun the biological clock as one can make the optimum use of the modern science that can guarantee successful conception and fertilisation. What is required is a fair amount of determination and patience. Here are a few steps in this regard:

Discontinue all Birth Control Methods

Women who desire to get pregnant in their 40’s are usually believed to be practitioners of the common birth control methods. You need to discontinue each of them like condoms, oral contraceptive pills, spermicides and IUDs. This is the first step towards possible conception. And you also need to realise that your menstrual cycle will not return to normal immediately after you stop your birth control. So exercise patience and relax.

Focus on a Healthy Lifestyle

Fertility is directly related to the health of a person. So concentrate on maintaining a healthy weight and develop a habit of regular exercising. This will help to clear the body of the undesirable toxins and free radicals that are known to create considerable impediment in your fertility status.

You further need to ensure that both you and your partner take sufficient amount of nutritious food, which are readily available from vegetables, fruits and garden products. Make sure that they are high in anti-oxidants. Sea-food should be avoided as they are liable to be contaminated with mercury – a toxic element. Abstain from smoking, alcohol and caffeine.

Go for Regular Checkups

Make sure that you visit your healthcare provider frequently. You need to be well aware of your health and discuss every single development with your doctor. This is important so that she or he can guide you through the procedure. An expert advice can always prove to be beneficial when you are trying to get pregnant in your 40’s.

It is also vital to understand that when a woman wants to get pregnant in her 40’s there is a potential risk of miscarriage, still birth or the baby might be born with a few congenital defects. So it is necessary that you duly consult your doctor and obtain advice on how to prevent them and deal with them. Often it is found that with a bit of care and medication, it is possible to deal with these potential problems quite effectively.

A few regular tests can ensure that your reproductive system is functioning properly or undertake medication to normalise it. A series of fertility drugs are usually prescribed by the doctor to women who are trying to get pregnant in their 40’s, and this ensures that their ovulation is normal. And there is nothing to lose heart if you find a few tests yielding negative results. You can always resort to in vitro fertilisation if the situation demands.
