Baby's Growth and Development in Week 48 (Twelfth Month)

It is necessary to learn about the growth milestones that babies may achieve in order to boost their development. Find out what happens during the 48th week of baby’s development.

Week 48 is almost the beginning of the last month of your baby’s first year. Have you thought a year ago that time would fly like this? You may have thought then that it would never end, but you may be so busy in experiencing all the developmental phases your kid was growing through – you may not have realized that one year already has been over. Let us have a look how your baby develops in this week.

Changing Appetite

In week 48, your baby’s appetite will see many changes. You may find that her appetite may drop suddenly, though she will show an increased interest in food. By your baby’s first birthday, you would find that your baby has almost tripled her weight. But later, the rate of the increase in your baby’s weight will decrease – but you need not worry much; your baby will eat all she needs, and will learn soon how to stop when she is full.

Do Not Give Up Encouraging

Is your baby still not walking? Do you think of taking her to a pediatrician? But, have you tried enough? Many babies start walking even at 18 months, while few start taking their unassisted step at anywhere between 9 to 15 months. But you should keep encouraging your infant’s walking skills by giving her a stable push-pull toy or placing furniture in strategic areas to boost her cruising. She would hold your hands while taking steps, enjoy cruising on furniture, and may not even want to sit down. Now or soon, your baby would start walking with confidence.

Fine Motor Skills

Your baby’s motor skills are getting better each passing day. She can now confidently pick up a bit of baby food using her thumb and index finger. This is a great developmental milestone, and you must cheer your infant up so that she practices this skill more until she learns to eat food on her own by holding spoon or having finger foods with her own fingers. This would also make your cleaning process tedious, as now you would find baby food on your baby’s high chair tray, between car seats, or maybe under couch cushions.

Copy Cat

Your child is watching everything about what you do. She would love to copy your behaviour and behaviour of other people surrounding you. This is how your kid will start learning social behaviour. In this week, you will find your baby trying to wipe a counter with her bib, trying to brush her hair, trying on your sunglasses, or pressing buttons of your cell phone and trying to act as if she is talking to someone over the phone. Gradually, your baby will pick up on your speech patterns and on your words as well.

Model Manners

As your baby is trying to copy you more than before, it is a great time to practice more model manners with her, though you may have already started introducing words like “thank you” and “please” a few weeks ago. It is too early to insist on your baby using these words, but it is a very good way to practice with your baby and make her hear these words regularly – this will allow your infant to pick these words easily.

At the end of week 48 of your baby, you must check the following things in the check list: how much is your baby sleeping during naps and at night? How is her appetite? What type of solid food is your infant eating? Does your child look toward sounds? Does your toddler babble, say any words, or imitate sounds? Is she crawling and pulling up well or cruising or walking yet? This checklist will help you understand how your baby’s development has progressed by the end of the first one year of her life.

What kinds of developments are expected in a 48weeks old baby? How to boost a year old baby’s development? Discuss here.
