Baby's Growth and Development in Week 42 (Eleventh Month)

Your baby will complete one year of his or her development very soon. Learn about the growth milestones that a baby is expected to achieve by this month.

This week, your baby can ask you what he or she wants by simply pointing at something, for example, if he or she wants a toy on the other side of the room or wants to eat something. Your baby can easily understand your simple commands now. So communication will just get easier from now on.

A Lot of Movement

Your baby is constantly on the go – sometimes you may wonder where from he or she is getting such enormous energy to cruise around all the rooms, also making a few unassisted unstable moves, but not getting tired at all. Your baby will keep discovering new and faster ways to move, which would also give him or her plenty of exercise, which will make his or her nap more intense, which would further allow you to enjoy a more relaxing moment. Remember, the more your baby practice using his or her legs, the more coordinated and stronger he or she will be.

A Lot of Reading Time

This week you will find you kid is too busy with books. He or she is enjoying leafing through pages and looking at all those colorful images in the book. He or she also has some favourite pages that he or she likes to pull off the cabinet and starts reading them – mostly the ones with great colorful pictures. Keep boosting your kid’s reading time by sticking to well-built and inexpensive board books that are easy for small fingers. You can always try the kids’ section of the local library to give your kid access of more kid-friendly books.

A Lot of Talking

At week 42, your baby will make a lot of noise than ever before. Your baby exactly knows what he or she is talking, but it may sound gibberish or baby talk to you. He or she is practicing his sounds and checking what he or she can put together to make it more meaningful. You need to encourage his or her verbal skills by responding to what your baby is saying – this will help him or her tune up his or her verbal skills and one fine day, his or her noises would make complete sense to you, and that would happen soon if you keep talking with your baby.

Pairing Things

Your baby’s brain is getting smarter and now he or she understands the concept of pairing well. Your infant understands that keys are for family car, drinking cups for people, watering hose for garden plants, etc. He or she would be confused if you plan to water the indoor plants with the same water hose. Pairing helps your baby make greater sense of his or her increasingly interesting world. Boost your baby’s interest in pairing by watching your child play and explaining that humans and animals eat, but cars do not, as they run on gasoline.

Spilling Liquids

Your baby is trying to become independent by feeding himself or herself using Sippy cups that promise not to make spills and messes, but they are not completely bound. There are small accidents when your baby spills from sippy cups too; do not make a mess about it – instead teach your baby how to clean up the spilling. Remember that week 42 is also about learning to grab a paper towel and allow your child to help you clean up the spill.

Your baby has got teeth now and he or she would like to bite not only on food, but also on toys, furniture, and on you or strangers too. This may seem to be cute, but you are supposed to discourage this behaviour as it can be a problem in future. Teach your kid by firmly saying “No biting” or making a loud noise like “Ouch” so he or she understands that this act is forbidden. You have to keep repeating the words until one day he or she learns and do not repeat biting on non-edible things.

What kind of growth milestones do babies achieve during the 11thmonth of their development? How to boost development of babies during the 42 week of their development? Discuss here.
