Baby's Growth and Development in Week 36 (Ninth Month)

Makes yourself aware of the growth milestones that a baby is expected to achieve on completion of her 9th month or the 36th week of her development.

It is almost end of 9 months now, and you may have got used to a couple of small nap times your baby takes during the day, but your routine breaks as your decides to change her nap time. Many babies tend to change their nap times by now – they usually cut down the morning nap time and they increase their afternoon nap time. You can always use the extended peaceful hours at the afternoon to finish all your household chores or just take some rest. Let us have a look at how your newborn develops at this week.

Brain Development in Week 36

Your baby’s brain can register all her favorite games now. Whether it is about mimicking facial expressions, such as lip smacking, eye blinking, raspberries, etc., or it is about playing the “sticking-out-my-tongue game”, your baby has her favorites now. You would notice that your baby waits for a day or two before she imitates you. For example, your infant might have caught you arranging the clothes yesterday, today or tomorrow you would find her trying to do almost the same. This is called deferred imitation or postponed imitation.

Cruising Around

Yes, your baby can start cruising around. Week 36 has a lot to offer for your baby – she can stand up and move while holding onto furniture. For most babies, it becomes challenging to learn to sit down after standing up rather than just standing up, but it can be easier for your baby – just keep watching out for more surprises. Do not bother to buy shows now as it is better for them to improve their body balance if they can feel the ground with their feet.

Enhanced Motor Skills

Your baby can already grasp and pick up big objects confidently, but that is not all, she will now get busy in improving the fine motor skills by developing the small muscle movements of her hands and fingers. You would observe your infant practicing to pass a toy from one hand to the other without dropping it. So your baby starts developing her hand-eye coordination on her own.

Trying to Speak

Your infant will babble a lot now – almost in the same tone as if she is speaking to you. The babble will be very similar to the cadences and rhythms of real talking. Keep talking to them more, pointing out different objects around them and naming them – this will help them to speak earlier. Also, if you sing to your babies, they tend to speak earlier than babies who are never sung to. Your baby will not bother about you being musical or not –she just loves your voice and would love to hear it singing.

Social Skill Development

At week 36, your baby will develop certain social skills, such as happy gestures like blowing kisses and waving hands. Babies tend to develop a sense of humor now; of course your baby would be no less than others. By now, your baby knows how to keep her engaged when alone, and she also enjoys the company of her closed ones. Now you must take your infant to a baby group as it is a great time to boost their sociability and allow them to enjoy company of others of the same age.
Make your baby stick to the same time every day for drinking milk, eating food, going to the park, and sleeping. This will develop a proper routine in your baby’s life and she would know what she is supposed to do at that particular hour every day. Week 36 is an ideal week to make your baby follow a daily routine that would help both of you in the long run.

What kind of growth milestones do babies achieve by the completion of 9th month? How to boost the development of 9-months-old babies? Discuss here.
