Find about the growth milestones that a baby is expected to achieve by the 31st week (eighth month) of her development. They say that a woman becomes a mother when she first conceives, and thus starts her splendid journey into motherhood, one of the most glorious phases in a woman's life. Well, at this stage, you have overcome the hurdles of a nine months long pregnancy, and approximately 7 and a half months after the birth of your child, you're entering your 31st week with her. It is amazing to note how quickly time passes, isn't it? So far, your baby has grown in size and in strength, she probably even has a couple of teeth to boast of, she is playing and laughing and is able to more or less communicate with everyone else. Who knows, she may about to start walking.Quite a few milestones have been reached in the past few weeks, and you will notice some new ones this coming week. So are you ready for it? You could even note some down, to help you cross check later on!
At 31 weeks, it is expected that your baby is developing at a rapid rate, which means she is growing with every passing day. At this stage, she is sure to have mastered quite a number of skills, none of which fail to take you by surprise. She is learning something new every day, which means she is picking up little skills even now as you read this. However, that also means you have to be careful about what you do or say in front of her.Since you're likely to be spending the maximum amount of time with her, she is going to take you as a role model and imitate every thing you do. Some things which were perfectly harmless before you became a parent are not going to work now. Very soon your baby is going to become a toddler, and that means she is likely to start walking soon. You just have to hold your breath, the big moment could be coming any time soon.
A Few Physical Developments
At 31 weeks, it is expected that your baby has started cruising now. Cruising means your baby is now able to stand up holding on to pieces of furniture. Earlier, her idea of moving about was crawling, and now that she has learnt this fun method, it is going to be her new favourite. You might also notice your baby trying to stand up on her own, without any kind of support. This is the first sign that she is about to start walking soon. But parents have often noted how the baby easily lets go, and starts wobbling and then falling over with a thud as soon as you pay attention to her or come towards her. Your baby is only 31 weeks old, cut her some slack! She is probably nervous, and that will tamper with her balance. But don't worry, she'll soon figure out how to maintain balance while standing.
Your Baby Hasn't Started Crawling Yet?
Reading this and suddenly realizing that your 31 weeks old baby hasn't started crawling yet is enough to send a parent into a panic mode. It might concern you, but there's no need to rush to the clinic just yet. Why, some babies have been known to skip the crawling part and head straight towards the walking part! Your baby could be one of them! The only thing to do is wait and watch, and you need to stop comparing your baby with others. Each baby takes her own sweet time, and there is nothing wrong about that. Keep in mind that your baby has now become perceptive, and is able to pick up on slight changes of behaviour.
Her Language Skills
Well, your baby's language skills are developing rapidly too! And to a great extent, it is depends on you and your language skills. When you're talking in front of her, or she is in the vicinity, you need to be clear in your manner of speaking. Do not mumble, and do not use abbreviations or colloquial expressions. Speak in clear, precise language so that she can understand and follow that example. Baby talk is a big no no! Do you want your baby to be the butt of jokes later on, then you need to stop baby talking right now! Also, child psychologists have suggested that it is better to speak any one particular language in front of a baby, as it helps them follow.
They Can Sense It
Name an emotion, and your baby has the power to sense it. She is able to tell happy from sad, and joyous from anger. If there's a change in your voice from tender to gruff, chances are, your baby will be able to notice it. If your baby has done something to annoy you, make sure your tone doesn't change. Be firm while correcting her, after all, you have to teach her the difference between right and wrong, but make sure she takes back something good from the experience, and not fear. Also, if there is an argument in the house, try to keep the volume low. It is likely that your baby is able to understand that, and might be adversely affected by that.
Babies can be fascinating creatures, and what's more fascinating is seeing them change with every day that passes by. Some milestones might be welcome, while others might be a hindrance. But whatever it is, as long as your baby is healthy and happy, you have nothing to worry about.
