Baby's Growth and Development in Week 29 (Eight Month)

Find about the growth milestones that a baby is expected to achieve during the eight month of her development.

Doesn't it surprise you that this time last year you were just about 17 weeks pregnant? In the second trimester of your pregnancy, what did you think motherhood would be like? The assumptions you made back then must make you smile now, because as we all know life as a mom is never one thing, it is a hundred different things together. Now your baby is about 29 weeks old, in other words, she is in the eight month of her development. She's come a long way since the first month, when all she could do was eat, cry and sleep. Before you celebrate, it would be wise to tick a few things off the checklist. It would certainly put some of your doubts to rest.

Teeth Care at This Stage

As a matter of fact, your baby's teeth should have started making an appearance quite a few weeks ago. However, if they're just starting to show, there's no need to panic. The timing might differ in different babies. He should be having a couple of milk teeth now. With each tooth, your baby's diet will be undergoing a change, and it is important that you keep a track of this. Also, you need clean her teeth and gums regularly. Your baby has an impressionable mind now, if you start teaching her the benefits of sticking to a routine at this early age, it will help in the long run.

Crooked Teeth?

There is no need to turn on your panic mode yet, although we all know that paranoia descends when even the tiniest thing goes wrong with your darling! Most babies have crooked teeth at the beginning. Some theories exist which link crooked teeth to breastfeeding. But don't worry, once the permanent teeth kick in, these crooked teeth will have no bearing. By the time she is two, she should be having all her milk teeth. And to your relief, most of this crookedness which appears really comical at times will have been corrected naturally.

Milestones This Week

Your baby's communication skills are developing day by day. She is clearly able to recognize you and the people she sees everyday. She is likely to give a big toothless smile and wave at you as you pass her. She recognizes your touch, and will be completely comfortable with you and the people she interacts with frequently. Moreover, you will also notice a tendency in your baby to cruise. She is trying to stand up, even if it is holding on to pieces of furniture. You could find about some muscle strengthening exercises for your baby, and that will certainly help her in her muscle development.

Is Your Baby Ill?

Babies are human beings, after all! And they are likely to fall sick, just like you. If she starts throwing up or is unable to keep food down, you do not have to rush to the doctor just yet. It just means that you need to change her diet as soon as possible. Introduce the food items that are easy to digest, like plain foods and fruit juice. Fruit juice is lighter on a baby's tummy, and will help her get accustomed to her diet.

"Object Permanence"

If you've read some parenting books, you must have come across this phase. Earlier, it was pretty easy to divert your baby. Now, your baby is more likely to remember things she had seen previously. You could strengthen his cognitive skills by playing simple games with her. For example, you could show her a ball and hide it. Then ask her to find it. That is sure to make your baby put on her thinking cap!
At the eighth month, the baby's brain and body is developing at a rapid rate. However, none of that is in your hands. All you can do as a responsible parent is to monitor her development, and take her to the doctor if you have concerns.

How to boost a baby’s development in the 8th month of her development? What kind of growth milestones do babies achieve during the 8th month? Discuss here.
