Antenatal Visit And Diagnostic Tests in Eighth Month

Antenatal Visit And Diagnostic Tests in Eighth Month

The baby is nearly ready to be born in the eighth month of pregnancy. Read on to know what to expect in antenatal visit and diagnostic tests in the eighth month and what you can find out from the tests.
With each passing week, your baby is more and more ready to be born. The life of the baby inside your uterus each day will count as two less days in the hospital, that is, if he is born prematurely. As you are visiting your doctor every two weeks at this stage of your pregnancy, you will be required to go through a series of tests in order to ensure that you are not suffering from any deficiency and there are no complications.

What Do you Notice in Your Baby From the Regular Tests?

The weight gain in your baby has been incredibly fast for quite some time now. In comparison to the seventh month of your pregnancy, the baby will now weigh around 1.7 kg, that is, an additional two pounds and will measure about 15.8 inches.

Vital Developments in the Baby -

So far, the mother had been the sole provider of all the natural requirements of the baby. Now gradually, the baby begins to prepare itself for a life outside the womb. This begins with the production of the red blood cells. The entire red blood cell production is carried out by the bone marrow of the baby itself. The amniotic fluid volume is getting lesser as the baby is growing in size. But it will be still present until and after delivery. By now, you will find that the baby has also begun to urinate. It now urinates half a liter everyday. This is also an indication that the mother has to be well hydrated at all times. Your lack of water intake will also make the baby dehydrated inside.

Development of Baby’s Eyes -

The eyes has been gradually developing in the foetus and now it will now blink more frequently and keep the eyelids open for more than just brief periods. They will react more prominently to light and darkness and will open and close their eyes at their own will. One can also notice that the irises will contract and dilate in response to light.

Development of Baby’s Nails -

The nails will grow very fast at this stage and in some cases, the newborn might even require a nail trim right after birth! Usually babies will have a fair amount of hair on their heads by this stage. But it is also normal to find a foetus with a lot or no hair on their head at all. Both the extremes are perceived to be completely normal.

Development of Baby’s Lungs -

The lungs are still in the process of maturing and not yet fully developed. The other internal organs are rapidly developing at this stage. Along with the eyes, the auditory functions are also developing fairly as the baby will react to different sounds in a more pronounced manner. He does get to hear all the sweet little things that you have been cooing to it throughout the day.

The amount of body fat of the baby is also fast developing in order to help it adjust itself to the outside environment after delivery. Another common feature to notice is that the baby is kicking more frequently and with enhanced might. There will be a pressure of the baby felt in your uterus, as if it is pushing its way downward. It is because the room in the uterus is getting smaller and smaller with every little growth and development of the baby. This is a sign that you will soon go in for labour contractions.
